BLTyoyoworks, 3rd run of prototypes finished!

The black with red splash is cool.

Oh snap, realistic yoyo!

Why is the pattern only in the catch zone and bearing seat? Kinda weird.

that’s just the way the texture is, cgtextures didn’t have many good splatter textures. It won’t look like that when it’s actually anodized.

Ahh. It’s pretty cool lookin though. I like the purple with green a lot.
Who is going to anodize your yoyos?

I don’t remember the name at the moment, but I think either Alvin or one drop told me the name of the company that almost all yoyo companies get them done at.

It’s gruntbull, if I recall. They do all the splash and acid wash stuff. They’re somewhere in Ohio. Solids are done in Portland for OD, so i’ve been told

yeah, grunt bull was the name. I knew it had bull in the name. I did not know about portland doing solid colors though.

I would like to test it!

I love the purple/green one! Looks so cool. So do you know when you’ll pick the testers?

we will decide as soon as the yo-yos are all set up. We need to get bearings and response pads, as well as test each one individually. also get the weight. after all that is complete we will decide. Sorry all this is taking so long, you’ll just have to be patient. rushing and nagging us (not that you were) will make it worse, just for future reference.

thats who I’m using!

This whole thread is really cool, especially since I’ve been wanting to design and produce a yoyo. I like the name “Whole Wheat”, it reminds me of how Crucial names some of their yoyos after dairy. I was wondering, did you guys design all the specs for the bearing seat, response groove, and axle system, or did your machinist just look at your design and do those parts for you? I ask this because that’s the only part of designing a yoyo that scares me; That I might design a cool looking yoyo with good weight distribution and everything, and when it gets produced, the axle and bearing don’t work. Great job, and congratulations on realizing a dream!

Cheers!

Sean

originally we were going to have him make the bearing seat etc. after our design, but because of some wierd measurements, he said it would be easier if he copied it from a different yoyo, in this case, the yuuksta.

Bearing seats are easy enough to make…

resoponse pad grooves aren’t. nobody actually gives the specs.

Email someone, like one drop, i did, and they sent me the specs, just ask for em’

Easy enough. Just like FlyCaster said. Here’s the specs I usually use,

The top one says 0.500mm

Cool, thanks! I’m taking a CAD program this summer, and hopefully will learn some tricks of the trade for design software. Once you’ve got a good design, does it cost a lot to manufacture?

Cheers,

Sean

cost depends on where you get it done. One drop charges $600 to have 10 prototypes made and $1800 for a final run of 100 yo-yos. alvin from fox land charges 300 for 4 protos and for a run he charges $30 per yoyo. I would recommend finding somewhere local that charges less.
