Okay, I’ll rephrase then: I find it a little ironic that Gentry needed extra rim weight–as evidenced by the direction of his latest Shutters, which he’s used in competition–but saw bi-metals as unnecessary. Bi-metals are the result of players needing more rim weight, so it stands to reason that someone who feels a need for the latter would end up with the former.

Yeah, Im with you there for sure. It’ll be interesting to see if he ends up using the bi-shutter in contest or if he stays with the new WA

Part of the Shutter design is the more balanced weight distribution. Needing more rim weight within that design is not the same as needing a design based on maximum rim weight.

True. Of course, I have bi-metals that aren’t aimed at maximum rim weight either, where the rings aren’t on the outermost edge. I would argue that it is considerably easier to situate the weight where you really want it with a bi-metal than with just 6061 aluminum, but bi-metals do come at a price. A price Gentry didn’t want to be associated with, I guess. Until now?

The one at the back of his recent instagram post is the same colour.
Also could be just a coincidence but he decided to hide the “shiny rims” one at the back. It’s the ninth one in the picture, also blurred.
BUT i could be wrong and it’s just the polished rims one he used to win 2014 worlds.
