Best Spirit Bomb Walkthrough?

I’m really struggling with Spirit Bomb, mainly because I can’t figure out exactly what I’m aiming to do on the first pop after the wrist mount. I’ve landed it in the right place a couple of times, but I’m not sure exactly what is going on when I do it.
