Hi. Still new here and to throwing. Thanks for the replies from my last post.
I am just learning between responsive and non responsive, never knew. Bought a shooting start and it was non responsive. Changed the bearing and its still non responsive. So the issue is my throwing! I can throw a duncan butterfly but this non responsive is not for me right now. But I cant get a spin on the duncan. Any help is appreciated.
Also it seems like a place where peeps threw would be cool. Like a park on a certain day? Does anyone city or place do this?
I have gotten to the point where I think some of the tricks I’m working on look kinda cool, so I just practice everywhere now lol.
As far as the YoYo it coming back for you when you want, it sleeping when you attempted there are a myriad of reasons that could be… if you would like more response from a YoYo, you can take the loop at the bottom of the string and add an additional twist around the bearing.
For 5 bucks you could pick up a butterfly XT and take the bearing from that and put it in any unresponsive and get a reliably ”semi-responsive” throw, they are HEAVILY GREASED flat C bearings. Very smooth, definitely responsive.
The Duncan? Perhaps your string torsion (the “twist” imbued in the string) is too tight, causing the string to grab the axle too much and not allowing it to spin. There also could be an issue with the axle being too rough, or having a burr. Or a dreaded butterfly axle knot. Those can be a real bear to pick out
Thank you!
First off, congrats on the Shooting Star!
Second off, the yoyo comes with a shorter axle to go with the responsive bearing. Make sure you are using the right axle. Also, most bearings are shipped dry, so if you don’t have any you will need to purchase some bearing lube.
There are two types, thick lube and thin lube. Thick lube is for responsive bearings, thin for unresponsive bearings. Yotricks sells some and also has a good vid explaining the details of application
Thank you. I have changed both bearings and cannot get it the throw to return. Must be a rookie error!
Yo if you get some vaseline or chapstick, you can put that in the more narrow bearing and that will help it return to hand. no need for crazy precision to do that either just muck it in there.
Also what city are you in? I would definitely recommend seeing if you have a local yoyo club! That would be a great way to have someone make sure you’re all set up and cooking.
Also yeah 5$ butterfly XT from target is a good first yoyo or early yoyo. no need to fuss with it like you can open and play right away. It definitely can get you through basics and beyond! XT was my first yoyo hah
This is awesome. Than
ks so much.
In Dallas. Maybe throwing a fancier yoyo is supposed to be this difficult? The Shooting Star and I are not friends so far. Why is this 10x harder then the dunkan?
Eh youll get there forsure yo and Dallas definitely has a club! Im going to ping @Sgt1yoyo1 bc they’re super nice and can get you the club info!
It will be. Be patient with yourself!
so nice, thank you.
@Kirk Hey man! Yes there are a bunch of throwers here in DFW and there’s actually a yoyo contest this Saturday for the first time in a real long time if you want to come meet a bunch of us! More details here!
When I got my shooting star, the thin bearing was dry and it was unresponsive for me as well. I second the above comment to lube the thin bearing.
Another thing: with the unresponsive bearing you need to put only about 1/2 a drop of lube into each side. The yoyo will play a bit responsive afterwards. You will need to break in the lube to get the full benefit.
With the responsive bearing, you can be liberal with the lube, just be VERY CAREFUL not to get any on the response pads. This WILL RUIN THEM. This is true of any lubricant.
This is awesome. I might be able it make it out early. Thanks for the heads up!
Of course! Hope to see you there!
