So I’ve been throwing for about six months. I’m not too good, but I enjoy it a lot, and I’m slowly picking tricks up.
I pretty much only throw responsive. I have an iyoyo Shooting Star that is possibly my favorite next to my Freehand One, but it feels like I have to clean the bearing every other day for it to maintain good responsiveness, more than others. I swapped the bearing out with another and it doesn’t seem to have affected it.
Is there anything else I can do to keep it playing smooth longer? I usually clean the bearing with 91% alcohol and let it air dry, then add a tiny tiny bit of thick lube.
Unfortunately bearings getting dirty is a thing… do you have pets? If you are playing it responsive, you could try greasing it. The other solution is to switch to playing fixed axle, then you don’t have to worry about bearings.
The Shooting Star (and similarly the Speedaholic) have wide gaps/catch zones and low walls, which while making them great for various types of play, can also make them less consistent on pure responsive stuff at times. Might be a silly question, but are you using the half-spec bearing (the shorter one) on your set-up? This allows your string to more easily come in contact with the response pads and give you more consistency. Also, if you’re cleaning your bearing without lubing it again, you might be unknowingly making is more unresponsive. A lot of times bearing will lose their responsiveness over time and you have to hit it with a little thick lube to get them going again.
Side note, Shooting Star as a responsive is a really fun player.
I am using the half spec bearing for the SS. I absolutely love it, but maybe the forward throws are more for the Turbo Confusion than the SS Not the end of the world! I’ll just keep at it guys, thanks
