So this year’s AP video contest is over, & the Eli Hops event is a little over a month away, & a few people have questioned if there will be another AP video contest again next year. The answer is YESSSS!!! Why bring this up now? Well, some people stated they would have entered if they had been given more time to create their artistic video. So, in the hopes of making this contest even bigger & better next year, Granny Smith is assuring everyone that there will indeed be another AP video contest, but that’s not all. Every few weeks or so Granny Smith will post suggestions to help get the creative juices flowing. That being said, we’re going to get a few changes out of the way regarding next year’s competition. 1) Videos previously published can only be used if additional footage or editing is done, and 2) to be considered for the contest, the video must contain at least 2 artistic elements that can be judged. These elements include, but are not limited to the following: video storyline/message/theme/concept, entertainment value, art direction, camera effects, camera direction, costumes, makeup, acting, sound direction and editing, & incorporation of an additional artistic discipline (such as live music, dance, mime, etc.)
And, in the spirit of Halloween, Granny Smith’s creative suggestion for this installment is COSTUMES! There are so many great costumes out there this time of year, & just looking at the selections in the ad sections of the newspapers can inspire all sorts of video themes from horror to super hero. If your video idea requires a cop or criminal, doctor or nurse, or even a well-known personality, you’d likely find just the right costume for the part during this time of year. Also with so many people walking around in costumes on Halloween night, you may be able to capture footage that would be perfect to incorporate in your video. So whether aliens or zombies invade your neighborhood this Halloween, grab your video recorder, start filming, & see what it inspires. And let’s not forget one last thing; those costumes will be on sale after Halloween.
