Are you addicted to Buying and trading Yoyo's?

So I have been doing some reading on addictions lately, and I found something quite disturbing. In an article by dr. phil, he listed ten different signs of being an addict…

  1. Recurrent failure (pattern) to resist impulses.
  2. Frequently engaging in those behaviors to a greater extent or over a longer period of time than intended.
  3. Persistent desire or unsuccessful efforts to stop, reduce or control those behaviors.
  4. Inordinate amount of time spent in obtaining the object of addiction and/or engaging in or recovering from the behavior.
  5. Preoccupation with the behavior or preparatory activities.
  6. Frequently engaging in behavior when expected to fulfill occupational, academic, domestic or social obligations.
  7. Continuation of the behavior despite knowledge of having a persistent or recurrent social, academic, financial, psychological or physical problem that is caused or exacerbated by the behavior.
8 ) Need to increase the intensity, frequency, number or risk of behaviors to achieve the desired effect, or diminished effect with continued behaviors at the same level of intensity, frequency, number or risk.
  8. Giving up or limiting social, occupational or recreational activities because of the behavior.
  9. Resorting to distress, anxiety, restlessness or violence if unable to engage in the behavior at times.

According to quite a few of those points, I am a yoyo buying/trading Addict.

so here is the question… Are you? And if so do you think we should get some sort of 12 step group thing going, or should we just go buck wild on the b/s/t?

I thought I was done buying and trading after I came back from cal states. 2 weeks later… Bought a ricochet, my friends worlds Orbitron 5K, an original Punchline, and just sent off a yoyo that will be traded for a SPYY Stryker. I’m addicted.

Not so much trading, but I am crazy addicted to buying and collecting.

Yes.

Addiction is a funny thing. Anyone can be any kind of addict when you put a definition with it. I love looking at things, including yoyos. I am an extremely visual person. If I were blind, after knowing what I know now, I’d be rather… upset, putting it mildly. So, I guess you could say I am addicted to vision and appearance. I’m a sucker for anything that looks nice. That does not mean I go and buy whatever I see because I still know I have obligations in life.

You say ‘addict’ like it’s a bad thing

yes… but if you keep em mint, they retain most of their value… which is why i like metal ones

I like the word ‘passionate’ more haha

Addicted? Yes! Passionate? Yes! I think what keeps us for going over edge is that in the back of our minds we know; if we had too, we could get back most of the money spent by selling it all. So there is that investment factor. Not so much to make money just to recoup your spending. A lot worse addictions for sure.

<I guess some of you guys are

<Put on glasses

<yoyoaddicts

< yeaaaaahhhhhhhh!!

I would if I had enough money :).

ha, yeah. I always have this horrible feeling from the time that I pull the trigger on a new throw. But that quickly goes away when I recieve it. strange conflict between wallet and happiness. Looking back, I would say ever penny spent was worth it.

I’m not an addict! I can quit whenever I want!

I just don’t want to yet
