Aw man I thought this was about gossip
I’ve been wanting to get a gaiwan for a while now, though I have an extremely well-seasoned yixing pot I’ve been using for my oolongs.
I need to get some nice cups for myself as well. A whole set would be slick. I need a traditional Tetsubin.
I use a Staub La Theiere for tea. My absolute favorite pot because it’s also a dangerous weapon at that weight.
Last time I made tea I went to sip some foam from the tip of a cup (London fog variants I made) and the first cup was fine. I was overly confident in my abilities when the second up overflowed. No one tells you what second degree burns feel like on the inside. Stupid beard pushed the lid just a LITTLE too far forward. I have since learned to be patient.
Had to look up what this was, thats one beefy kettle! Ive been on the hunt for a tetsubin for a while, Im fine with my electric kettle for at home, but I would love something that I can throw on a fire out in the woods.
I can’t recommend anything Staub for open flame since the enamel will crack, but a beautiful, raw, cast iron tetsubin would be the bees knees over an open fire. Either a really ornate tetsubin or one of those cast iron numbers from Lodge back in the day. The classic one with the spring handle.
Me drinking 4-6 cups of tea a day: yeah I’m into tea!
Me reading through this thread: huh maybe I’m not as into tea as I thought I was.
I use a Zojurushi hot water heater so I can have hot enough water on tap. Mostly order from Harney and Sons and drink whatever captures my taste buds until I get sick of it. Current favorites are Black Current, and Genmaicha.
I had to quit coffee for medical reasons so teas with a nice roasted flavor like genmaicha or hojicha have been my jam a lot.
