Anyone Here Into Perfume?

Hey fellow yoyoers!
Bit of a random topic, but I’ve been getting into perfumes lately and was wondering if anyone else here is into that too.

I know it’s not exactly like yoyos, but in a weird way, it kind of is: both are about small details, personal style, and enjoying something just for the fun of it. Like how we all have our favorite yoyos, colors, or bearings, perfumes are the same, just a different kind of hobby.

Would love to hear what you guys wear, like, or recommend. Doesn’t matter if you’re deep into it or just getting started, feel free to share your favorite scents or anything you’re curious about.

Let’s see if we’ve got any scent nerds hiding in the community!

i love scents of all kinds but i lean more into oils, waxes, and incense rather than wearables. do you mix and create your own?

That is pretty wild!

I don’t think I have enough knowledge yet to be able to do that on my own.

Never had the chance to create a scent, just picking up designer bottles based on the notes that I like the most.

this is certainly a thread i never thought i’d see pop up on here but yeah, i dabble in fragrances lol. For spring/summer I love tom ford’s neroli portofino, byredo’s bal d’afrique, mojave ghost and gypsy water. For fall/winter I use tom ford’s oud wood, maison francis kurkdjian grand soir, and maison margiela jazz club. the all-arounders i use in my collection are the usual: sauvage (lol i know), and bleu de chanel. i’m slowly making my way through diptyque’s and le labo’s lineup but i haven’t committed to testing out any decants

Not as into perfumes on my side, BUT I do shave with a straight razor, and really like to dabble in different shaving soaps when making a lather.

There was a Cleary Sage one that was really nice for a bit, kind of herby/earthy but also hints of fruit to it. I had a Bay Rum that was really pleasant as well. Going through a Sandalwood bar right now.

That’s a pretty impressive collection!

Out of all those I own Jazz club and Bleu de chanel.

How would you describe Grand soir and Neroli Portofino?

Grand soir is a masculine but sweet scent, and to me the dry down has a fig note. It definitely has a dna relation to br540 if you’ve ever smelled that one.

Neroli portofino is like smelling freshly cut oranges! It’s super refreshing, BUT the performance is abysmal. It has at most an hour of lasting power on me. I usually carry a decant to reapply if I’m out for a while

Br540 is very popular among women but I have sampled it before and most people around me agree to it being a rather feminine scent.

As for Neroli Portofino, I am not surprised that it does not perform nor last given its summery notes. It’s overhyped on Tiktok though.

My current go to for this weather is Jean paul Gaultier paradise garden. My girlfriend prefers Le Beau edt but it’s not my favourite.

Sometimes I also spray Versace Dylan blue. Chicks really dig this lol.

I used to use a straight razor too! I had a pretty nice collection at one point, but I had to sell off most of them, but I kept about 5 of my favorites. Definitely a bit of a learning curve with those puppies!

It’s funny, I’ve been thinking of asking the same question lately :joy: been into fragrances since my first bottle of Drakkar when I was kid, last year was my ‘clones phase’ this year I’m focusing on less volume better quantity, also trying to find some quieter scents for the hotter months that aren’t the same generic freshies I wore in my teens.

My current summer rotation:
Montblanc Explorer
Emir Rich Santal (Le Labo Santal Clone)
Versace Blue Jeans
Versace The Dreamer
Victor & Rolf Spicebomb EDT (original bottle came broken, so it’s in a replacement)
Terre D’Hermes
Burberry London
Encre Noire
Club de Nuit Milestone (Clone of Creed Millesime Imperial, but it lasts longer than 20 minutes)
Lattafa Liam Grey (Clone of BDK Gris Charnel) not sure if I like this one

Samples of Creed Aventus & Killians Apple Brandy on the Rocks

My tastes change very regularly, it’s easier to list what I don’t like: Freshies with nothing to root them, Sweet, and/or “Blue”

It has to intrigue me to wear it, strike a memory, make a mental image. A few fragrances have earned the right of never wanting to run out, Tom Ford Black Orchid, Calvin Klein Obsession, Lattafa Vintage Radio to name a few

Awesome collection!

I must admit you have a great taste in perfumery.

I have been eyeing the Lattafa Liam Grey and Club de nuit milestone (sillage too).

Would you recommend either?

My mother owns Black Orchid edp, the opening is very harsh on my nose for some reason but the drydown is absolutely magnificent! Performance is great too on my skin.

I appreciate that thank you! I highly recommend the decant route, I use scent split, it really helps when learning what you like, and saves a ton of money. I blind bought for awhile and after a few burns, stopped. I have too many bottles I’ll never use.

Liam Grey is not much of my taste, it’s far sweeter than I was hoping, but the bottle is new, so still testing. It brings nothing to mind, the dry down is much better than the opening

Milestone is beautiful, it downright sparkles, a little melon at the top, which changes into the way sunlight sparkles on the ocean in the midafternoon, calming down to a sun bleached wood smell. I love this one, and own several back up bottles

Sillage I have, and wear sparingly, it’s very good, but such a distinct mood, it’s inky, cold, citrus and bluntly sophisticated. Very easy to overspray, when done moderately though it brings to my mind drinking cold water from a stream, on a mountain, after the thaw has just about finished from winter. It takes itself very seriously, leave a prominent scent trail and lasts ages. As I get older, I appreciate it more. I’d recommend it, but with caution, it’s very polarizing, if you can sample first, I would.

I had the same impression of Black Orchid as you at first, but my mind soon related it to strongly brewed black tea, near a charcuterie board, and a wild flower bouquet. And I’ve been hooked since. The chocolatey vanilla patchouli wet clean linen scent i find in the dry down is intoxicating.

Best tip I have if you’re looking to expand, social media is junk. I’ve tried so many hyped fragrances that were just awful, my bottles or Eros and flankers stand as proof. This sweet trend that the young 20s crowd seems to adore is killing me :joy:

The fragrance apprentice however is invaluable

Truly appreciate your advice and review.

I think I’ll be pulling the trigger on CDN Sillage!

Been also checking reviews about Valentino Uomo Green Stravaganza and Givenchy Gentleman edt, any thoughts on these?

I have not tried those yet, but I’m adding Gentleman EDT to my sample list, sounds very good at to my tastes

I own the Gentleman edt intense one, my signature scent but it’s too cloying for summer.

Outperforms the Gentleman boisee and reserve prive and smells really unique. You should sample it to see what I am talking about.

It’s pretty much my all time favourite, I bet you’ll like it!

I might give the regular EDT a shot. I dislike projection, I prefer the discovered but not anounced approach. My goal is a personal bubble that lasts a bit

Sounds like the intense, might be… intense?

It projects moderately and elegantly.

If you walk by someone they will certainly notice it. It’s a very remarkable scent but it’s far from being a room filler.

Also pretty versatile!

I have a bunch of new Ariana grande fragrance I can trade you for yo-yo.

Yes I am. I even tried to sell perfumes alongside yoyos here once. Trying to sell my Serge Lutens. I still have them if you want to buy.

I have bunch of old collections. Discontinued ones too. Like Boss Bottled Intense, Gurlein Ideal Cologne, 2015 bottle of Armani Acqua Di Gio Purfumo (300ml) don’t ask why I got such large bottles. All the OG bottles of Armani Code too, so Absolu, Absolu Gold, Colonia, Profumo. all those and more
