I know you’re being facetious, and it’s all good. I’d be very suspect of any vet that allowed anyone to, or especially if they called themselves a hero. All the men I consider heros are with their Creator, through truly heroic self sacrifice, knowing what they were about to do would probably be their final act, and greeting death on their terms, standing tall. That’s a hero. I never had an opportunity to do such a thing, and I will not lie and state that I would do the same without hesitation. I believe in my heart the good Lord gave me that much steel in my spine, however to say such a thing would in my mind be a desecration to a true Hero; one who used actions instead of words to claim that title. There are living hero’s, sure. But most men esteemed as such would never think it themselves.
