Just wondering if I’m the only one on here that appreciates games like NetHack where if your character dies you lose that character, and also gameplay is more the focus rather than graphics. Other examples would include Cataclysm DDA, Project Zomboid (kinda), Binding of Isaac, etc.
I’m currently playing Caves of Qud and it has the best/weirdest soundtrack and lore ever
Yes! I don’t really play video games anymore but when I did, I absolutely loved roguelikes and rogue lite games. Shoutout to hades, loop hero, and the goat—FTL
Hades is awesome. I really like deckbuilding roguelikes too. Inscryption is one of the best overall games I’ve ever played, and Slay the Spire has an incredibly addicting and well designed gameplay loop.
I’ve played a few over the years that I liked. Rogue Legacy, Risk of Rain, and Caveblazers are my favorites that come to mind. I usually go with Caveblazers when I’m in a roguelike mood. It’s kinda like a mix between Spelunky and Risk of Rain.
+1 for DeadCells. The game that just keeps giving. Ive never seen so much post release support, and the great majority of it has been free updates. The most recent paid update was a Castlevania expansion, and it delivered.
I played net hack irregularly for nearly 20 years before i ascended. So much meta gaming was required. I started keeping a spreadsheet for discoveries, and i think the first game i ascended i found at least one bones level with a bag of holding and a bunch of other stuff too.
My winning strategy was to play a rogue. And get a bunch of daggers, like a stack of 20, and then bless and enchant them to +3 or +4. Then dual wield short swords for close quarters combat at the beginning, and dual wield silver sabers if you can find one or two.
Yeah, and looking back at my screenshots, I’m pretty sure i found more than one bones level, or maybe a bones level where i had previously found multiple bones levels, because i had 4 amulets of life saving, and 63 blessed rustproof +5 daggers.
I’m a little surprised nobody has mentioned DC:SS yet. If you like actual roguelikes (as opposed to roguelites) I think it’d be right up your alleys. It’s open-source, has a looong history, it’s free, and you can play online so you can access your save games anywhere. It’s also hard.
