I usually use my morakniv eldris for roughout, flexcut 1.5ā detail knife for the bulk of the carving, and then dockyard micros for fine detail.
If youāre looking into a detail knife, that one you picked up from Silvern looks about perfect for my preferences. Iām no professional though. I just learned the basics from Doug Linkerās vids and then kind of figured it all out myself after that. Thereās a good chance that Iām doing it wrong 
If itās detail knives weāre talking about, anything 1ā-2ā should be pretty versatile. I noticed, once I got more comfortable with carving, I usually prefer the shorter end of that range. I also have a mini detail knife from flexcut that I like a lot. I think itās only a half inch blade.

Awesome, thanks for the advice! I am accumulating knives from a lot of different makers to see which I like the most. I have that one from Silvern coming, but kind of want to try a Deepwoods Ventures as well. I love my OCCT, but the handle does cause my hand to cramp after an extended period.

To be honest, I havenāt tried very many brands. I lucked into a pretty big flexcut collection and never really felt the need to upgrade. I can say steer clear of beaver craft. Other than flexcut and cheap department store brands, theyāre the only other brand Iāve tried. Not comfortable at all.
A nice knife is nice, no doubt, but for the price, itās hard to beat flexcut imo. Quality is fine, most of the time, and if you happen to get one with a bad grind (I never have), itās an easy enough fix.
I would still like a Helvie detail knife one day though.
Man, when I first discovered Helvie they only had a 3 month wait and would randomly, but regularly, have a couple for sale. I should have just jumped on it then. I heard now itās closer to an 18 month wait, and I canāt justify paying eBay prices.

Thatās so awesome that people are still wanting them. I havenāt checked in on the carving community for, probably, 3 years. Iām glad to hear theyāre still going strong.
All this talk is making me miss it for sure. I assume Iāll have more time to get back to more hobbies once my kids arenāt toddlers anymore. Until then, throwing and dadding it is!

I guess I look at these things a little different.
I picked up Beaver Craft for the kids. I got what I paid for.
Butā¦ A little time on the hones, some handle modification, and the do work. It is a decent quality steel and holds a edge.
Dont get me wrong, I would love a crafted knife where all the work has been done. But I am not far enough into this yet to justify it.

Oh simple when i done with my yoyo i well melt them to be my sword till then can not say.
TSA WHEN i pass through my doors to be around others simple put yoyo keep child safe my knives are subject i can not say.
Maybe I misspoke, beavercraft are fine knives that will definitely get the job done. And yes, you can put a mean edge on them no doubt.
Charlie mentioned comfort, and compared to my flexcuts, the comfort is just not there. I thought the beavercraft looked cooler so I tried to make it my main knife, but my hands would cramp very quickly and the corners of the handles would create hot spots. Flexcut has a rather comfortable shape imo.
You could probably make a beavercraft handle more comfortable pretty easily with just some sandpaper. Or better yet, pop the blade out and make your own handle. Thatād be fun.

Iām noticing a lot of these carving knife makers just drill a hole and epoxy in the blade. Sounds pretty simple, and would be fun to do. Especially since most of them will sell you just a blade for around $12.

I enjoy playing with knives but i like swords i not free to play with outside without people staring.
Its like having dog and enjoy the air outside but others around i have to play indoors so i truley do not carry what i will not post but they worth more then my yoyo.
So i ment it one day i will melt my yoyo so the grade is important so unless i blend 7075 or 7068 aluminum i really like damascus by enzo.
They do make knives and yoyo with scraps to not use aluminum 746$ i saving for.

Ahh yes, the Samurai sword- the most useless weapon ever created. Really good for killing defenseless peasants; useless for fighting anyone with a real sword.
Did the Spanish or Portuguese adopt the Samurai sword when they encountered them in the 16th century? Nope. Oh yeah; and the steel? Really cool physically-intense ritual construction. But inferior to steel made in a forge where impurities can be better removed.

My favorite is not so hard to find but when you ask to play do know how unresponsive and skill to keep it play pop star
To refine the steel then its a big Deal.
I just tried shaving with a straight razor yesterday. I think Iām over it. If I had a tattoo like that on my right arm, Iād need a tattoo of a styptic pencil on my left arm.
