I’m a gonna make an even longer string now.
I made this amazing cottton string. It’s a size 10. I have been playing with it for almost 3 hours and it still hasn’t broken yet. I used some of my brothers cotton string and they lasted me less than an hour each. I burned through 5 strings in less than 2 hours. So in conclusion I’m a gonna keep on making more.
Hmmm, sounds like a lotta old guys here. You guys be sure to take it easy, ok.
Just ordered my spare Eh and 200 type 10 strings.
Grab those type 10’s while you can, or I may order another pack soon! Haha.
Thanks jhb I’ll just do the best I can instead of taking it easy.
With thicker string, I can only assume that the eH plays more responsive. Is that better for tricks? Worse? Depends on the trick? And when it comes to the other YYE 100% cotton string, what size is it? Type 6 string? Type 8 string? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to be prepared for January 1st. My eH should be here on MONDAY!! I’m excited. ;D
The normal YYE cotton is type 8. Type 10 is thicker, though I’ve never played it so I can’t really make a recommendation of its qualities. I play mostly stalls, flips and hand balance/flip maneuvers so I’m hoping it’s a bit more responsive as well as holding tension and loops for kickflips and whatnot better.

Thanks, SkinnyBNY. I appreciate your response. I searched around the site and it looks like the Type 10 string is the way to go - especially since I also am getting a Hildy Bros. Currier too. Most of the posts on here suggest the type 10 string for the Currier to increase responsiveness. Thanks again for your help.
GET OFF MY LAWN!!! HAHA.
DANG IT… that means I have to order again! STOP IT… My Amex statement is as follows:
Yoyo Expert…… $xx.22
Gas………………… $xx.56
Yoyo Expert…… $xx.25
Groceries……… $xx.40
Taco Bell………. $xxx.79
Pepto Bismol… $x.75
Yoyo Expert…. $xx.95
I ordered a 5 pack of the YYE bumblebee cotton string and I gotta say I REALLY like it. So does my Moxon, which has the same axle as the new Eh. But… I don’t break as much string as you guys do. Maybe 1 in 10. Then again, this one broke on me after about an hour of play. I won’t knock on these, I’ll run out the other 4 before I judge. But as far a response, playability and feel, I actually really like it.

I think my favorite part of that Amex list is the Pepto. Was that for the Taco Bell or the 3 purchases at YYE? ;D
Oh, and thanks for the input on the string. I think January will be the month to test all of these out.
$100+ of taco bell will do that to you.
I’ll be honest, the string that came with both of my curriers is still going strong. I do t know if it was blessed by some sort of voodoo shaman or something, but it lasts forever.
Thought about putting together a string manufacturing station and trying out a type 12 cotton. It’ll probably be tax time before I do so. Of course I’m not doing a lot of string tricks, so the extra response would hopefully do some good.
@berto - I’m telling ya, if the type 10 cotton is t gone by the time I get my next paycheck, I’m ordering at least one more pack, if not 2. I figure 400 strings ought to last me at least a week or so. Lol.
We need a frequent buyer reward program here…
Just saying… I think I’ll order a 100 pack of the bumblebee YYE cotton string pending the 4 I have left are not poo…
The Type 10 I have been using since I got my first TMBR has broken on me only a handful of times… so to be cliché, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…
I’m doing a lot of experimentation dealing with the changing of strings. When I first picked up fixed axle, I read that you should change strings more often than normal. I was changing strings twice a day at that point. I realized how fast I was going through strings and slowed down on changing them. Depending on how much/hard/long/amount of sleep time, my string changing frequency is highly variable at this point.
Also I found a way to “refresh” a string overnight for the next days sessions. Leaving the string on the yoyo, I unroll and hang the string from the hook on a coat-rack and allow the yoyo to hang. When I play it the next day it’s like I put a fresh string on it.
Side point, I have been using my new Higby Duncan a lot since I got it for Christmas, it rides left pocket and my Eh rides right pocket. I like it much more than I expected I would. Didn’t realize Proflys are so fun!
I’ll try that renew of string trick.
yeah, I have a couple of Higby ProFlys and they are pretty sweet. I keep one in my car for those events I run out of the door and forget to grab another yoyo… Happens often
ive been playing my no jive since christmas and just broke the original string. swapped for one of my yye cotton type 10’s and i gotta say its just not the same. im going to do some research and try to replicate the spool that used to come with tk yoyos* (return tops for those in canada).
im finding myself playing the fixed axles more and more even though i dont know any cool tricks. its interesting the similarities between fixed axle yoyos and fixed axle bikes. simpler, harder to use, and insanely rewarding to succeed with. i dont even know that many 1a tricks, but i still bring my no jive into the kitchen and loop while im waiting for the water to boil, so it sees more hours than my metals.
another advantage of fixed axles is the lack of noise! i can play in my bedroom a few feet away from my sleeping wife. if i threw my loud ■■■■■■■■■■■ bearing mmc id get busted in 5 seconds.
anyways. yoyos are made of wood. everything else is probably a fad. bearings are for skateboards.
Let me know how that trick works for you. And I thought I might be the only one with a car yoyo. Glad to see at least one other person does this.
Full agreement sir.
I’m inspired by the “car yoyo” idea. I predict a seminal moment in my future in which I shoot the moon at a stoplight in a convertible. Now that I’ve got the car yoyo, I just need to procure the convertible.
What do you think the chances are of John doing a Higby Auto series of Proflys designed for the glove box? Instant classics!
…Higby Hot Rod.
…Higby Roadrunner
…Higby World Traveler
…Higby Sojourner
…Higby Hitch Hiker
well I just made a huge string. I think its 18 feet long. It doesn’t fit the gap of my yoyo. If anyone wants it PM me.
