4a

Ive been wanting to try 4a but don’t want to get a 4a yoyo so i have tried using my metal yoyo but can’t get it to bind … any recommendations or will it just not bind?

You need a half-spec/ whatever responsive bearing for of string

You need a yoyo to be responsive. I use a Yomega Xodus II. 1) it’s cheap, 2) it can also do basic 1A stuff.

You have 3 options:

  1. Get an offstring yoyo
  2. Get a thin bearing for the yoyo - http://shop.yoyoexpert.com/product/55/YYJ-Bearings - Get the narrow bearing.
  3. Learn to bind even with the yoyo unresponsive. It is possible to bind even with an unresponsive bearing. Just put some extra wraps around the axle and it should work fine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF2B94nO5es&list=UU4rgjx9rya3_RnnJZioJv1w - Andrew Bergen actually used an unresponsive metal yoyo for 4a and won the contest.

Be careful with the thin bearing, many yoyos have bearing seats that don’t close together tight enough to support a thinner bearing. Check the BST threads and try to pick up an actual 4a yoyo. YOu can get them for 10-20 dollars and its really worth it.

Alternatively, head to a Dollar Tree if there is one in your region and pick up one of their $1 ball bearing yoyos, they actually work reasonably well for 4a.
