Thank you! Hopefully can keep the updates coming now that I’m getting my rhythm.
Quick question, does anyone else burn through strings like crazy doing 2a? Im sure it’s a lot worse while learning looping but I just figure the general motion probably accelerates it.
Maybe a bit but I also use string way past the point I should. I live life on the edge. Also my plastic loopers won’t make me cry if they break off and launch into the ground.
Yes, 2A burns through string, and I don’t think it’s just while you’re learning. I try to change strings on the third day of play and every time I change them I think I should have changed them sooner. Fresh string feels so much better but I feel bad about the waste (also, I’m running out of my second favorite string and can’t get either of my top two anywhere, so I’m conserving).
2A is just very maintenance heavy in general. I also reapply lube when I change strings, but every few times I have to clean the bearing and spacers to start fresh again.
Have you deshielded your bearings? If not where do you put the lube? I know some folks, maybe even Shu, lube shielded bearings but I haven’t understood it.
Mine comes without a shield to easily penetrate the looping oil to the inner race of the ball bearing and spin it multiple times. Apply the lube in axle shaft in four sides and inner parts of the bearing just like shu did.
I haven’t been able to deshield my looper bearings yet
I put two small drops of thick lube on opposite ends of the bearing. I aim for the inside edge but realistically even a dot usually covers most of the bearing. I do this on both sides of the bearing (top and bottom), so 4 dots total per bearing.
I am not a fan of shielded bearings on looping yoyo’s because it makes it difficult to lube the yoyo and when it comes to cleaning the bearings it is really difficult to remove the shields.
I don’t understand why manufacturers of 0a and 2a yoyos always use shielded bearings when they know we want to clean/lube them. I’m to old to get them off. I’ve got to take a watch in for repairs and I’m going to see if I can get the jeweler to do it.
Since playing more 2a with a 75cm string, my 1a and 0a string length feels incredibly long. I’ve started to shorten my 1a and 0a string. I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this.
I like short string anyway. I generally have all my yo-yos at around my belly button in length. My loopers are closer to my belt line and my mini yo-yos are wherever they don’t over wrap the yoyo lol
I do a lot of poor looping practice for a little between 1a sessions and it always feels a little funky switching…I like to switch back and forth a lot though…I also use different 1a string lengths for different yoyos, depending on what I’m working on…Always learn on whatever setup is easiest then spread out…I tried using shorter strings but then I would just use those yoyos less in 1a…I’m locking in the habit of always throwing frontstyle over my nth and breakaway out to the side like an outside wrist loop then you don’t hit the floor or look silly with your arm up high…don’t know if all the variance I do is good form or not…keeps it fun though
With regards to shielded bearings…
I’ve ran a sewing needle around the inner edge of the outer race on my loop 720 bearings and there doesn’t seem to be a C clip holding the shield in. Has anyone successfully removed the shield from a 720 bearing? I remember buying a couple yo-yos from yoyoguy that had bearings that you couldn’t remove the shields on.
Yeah some don’t have removable shields. It’s annoying but a wash in a solvent will still do them good. Just more time is needed and swishing
So some do? Specifically 720s?
Happy loop day! Got this imperial at the old fashion toy store by me but I really enjoy the legend and keep switching to it! Just satisfying to throw! Also, I’m inspired by 2a and have been compulsively doing super super slow regens with my heaviest 1a Yoyo so I can watch it flip over really slow…it looks super cool. I ordered some 720s from a charity thing when I was drunk and I don’t think they’re going to ship for a second but I’m excited to try them and get more serious w loops because I can still tell my best looper isn’t exactly right for me and I’m compensating too much. Okay that’s my loop check in have a good day y’all!
Happy Tuesday. I recently passed a milestone and can hit 20 alternating loops (10 per hand). I’ve been trying to catch it on video and finally did.
These are the Sunrise kit Loop 720s. I’ve decided that I think the response is smoother on the Sunrise kit, with less of a tactile thunk at the end of the string. I’m still not sure I like them better, but I do tend to play better with them.
I’ve been trying to do Milk the Cow more from the wrist than the fingers and have completely set myself back two handing it for the time being. Hopefully I’ll work through that soon.
You are killing it Keith!! Its about to click for you. Shu better be looking in his rearview.
Nice! I loved the double fist clench to double thumbs up to double fist clench at the end! Nice work!
