2A Tuesdays ( a Looping Thread)

Hey everyone
New to 2a here and wanting to learn. I read someone on YYE that anyone who wants to take yoyo seriously as a hobby should he able to do atleast two different styles. When I heard maintenance I knew 2a was for me lol. Anyways I look forward to learning with you all if you will have me.

I just got a pair of 720 in the mail today and currently just trying different string lengths to see what I like best

Is the match the same spacer/bearing as the Sunrise?

I saw your post in the mail thread and wanted to tell you to check this one out but didnā€™t want to seem like the mayor. Most folks run a shorter string in 2a than other styles. 29" to 32" seems like the range. I run just a tick under 29" and Iā€™m terrible so you may want to go the other way.

I posted a year or two ago about improving the response on a Fireball and the advice was: grease.

I believe so. They are definitely both B bearings and both are Loop 720 halves, so I assume the spacers are roughly the same? I donā€™t have a Match so I canā€™t confirm.

Thank you! Iā€™m currently sitting around 32in I tried 30 but was having issues with throwing it near vertical on the loop. Might just be my technique Iā€™ll keep working on it. Iā€™ve watched the yoyotticks videos do you guys having other suggestions of videos to watch

Those videos are really the best Iā€™ve found. They explain the most.

This series shows you a bunch of tricks but doesnā€™t explain much:

Same with Fist Saludā€™s basement tutorial series:

They are good at showing you the progression through 2A tricks.

Iā€™ve got my two old Duncan imperial that work great for looping. Fixed axel snd all just had to double loop em to get a bit more consistency.

I had some loop 720 but they got destroyed and the rebuild while making them work messed with the weight and they donā€™t throw the same. I bought some used match and Iā€™ll put my sunburst spacers/ bearing in to make them how I like them.

I like looping and 2A. I have some metal responsive but I feel those are all better for 0A modern responsive play.

This is a really good video as well.

Thanks for sharing. This video was awesome for getting started!

I agree. The biggest thing I learned when I watched this a while back is only practice perfect loops. It your loops get wonky stop and start over. Donā€™t try to recover or continue to practice bad loops.

I saw an interview or something and Dazzling Dave has been a full time yoyoer for over 20 years.

Thanks for the videos that 1 oā€™clock tilt really helped a lot Iā€™ve managed about 5 consecutive loops and am pretty consistent with singles on my dominant hand. So after my first real day of practicing Iā€™m feeling a finger burn that 1A never had. Do you guys tape or just fight through it? I have no issue battling through it if it will eventually get better but if itā€™s not worth fighting Iā€™ll pick up some tape.

Is your string moving a lot on your finger? You can reduce that by tying a smaller loop and having the slip knot run from the inside of your finger to the outside.

I donā€™t use tape but if I ever find the need to, I have this lying around the house that I plan to use (I use it to brace my turf toe and plantar fasciitis while playing ultimate). Iā€™ve heard of other people using it for yo-yo.

Havenā€™t contributed to this thread before but hey yā€™all!

This video convinced me to try outside hop the fences. They are not easyā€¦yet.

Happy Tuesday! I am no longer loop curious and am now loop committed! In appreciation of 2a and to honor my first day of loop commitment, I will be only throwing loops today. In general, I donā€™t think the one day of 2a a week is right for me. I like it too much to only play 2a on Tuesdays and not enough to play 2a all day every Tuesdayā€¦I need the varietyā€¦

I will pop in on Tuesdays to say whatā€™s up and hit yā€™all with some progress updates when I hit milestones. Since I came here a few days ago, I watched the maintenance and set up videos and got my fireball, my legend and my legend wing set up for looping play. The fireball definitely works but itā€™s going to take some getting used too because the response is a little slow unless I throw it a little harder than I would instinctually and the response seems more directly tied to how hard I throw. Somehow, Iā€™ve been the most successful using the legend wing. I think itā€™s because itā€™s easiest for me to sense the yo-yos orientation mid loops but this is just a guess.

Okay okay so I do have a couple of questions about looping that came up this morningā€”
Does anyone have a fireball and can tell me if it screws apart? I think mine is stripped or they are designed that way so kids donā€™t mess them upā€¦doesnā€™t loosen or tighten when I twist/untwist just like spins. Never tried to open it before today so I donā€™t know how it could be stripped and there is no info on their website or anywhere about it.

Also do I neeeed to do the slight angle adjustments for loops? I read ahead to shoot the moon and Steve brown says the yo should be perfectly vertical for that oneā€¦can all the other loops be like that too? I just donā€™t want to train myself to always do the slightly off angles if that will be hard to untrain later. Or does it depend on the loop?

Yep all fireballs can be taken apart but in your case, it seems the inner plastic post of your fireball has a crack and this leds to lock up the axle. Might be the quality of the fireball plastic became brittle in those part of the yoyo even my hyper raider do this issue.

dang oh well it still works it was a gift and it was sub zero when they had it delivered so I bet the cold messed with it idk itā€™s definitely stripped somehowā€¦good to know thank you!
