Until someone else just said it I didn’t realize the Match has a different bearing. I just have one but I really enjoy it. I also have a pair of 720’s with the Sunrise mod. I’m going to do some additional research now.
I just bit the bullet and ordered a fourth Loop 720 and the blue spacer kit. I’m going to have one pair set up with the sunrise kit and I’m going to try the blue and red spacer combo on the other, or stick with reds if I don’t like that.
Blue/red is a slightly wider gap correct? Also it is the same as purple spacers too or am I mistaken?
I am not sure about the purple. Yes it is a wider gap, which I personally don’t think I’m going to be that into but I’d like to give it a try.
The wider gap should give a little more kickback, will be interesting to see your thoughts after trying it out
This post alleges that purples are same size as reds but with more strict tolerances.
Thank you!
This was the super helpful post about spacers (but maybe predated purples?).
Seeing that the same spacers work in Raiders makes me want to get a pair of them just for the nostalgia lol
I’m going to throw a wrench in the spacer debate. Has anyone else measured their spacers. I have a bunch of red, blue, purple and green spacers. I have two blue ones that measure thinner than all the rest of my spacers including the other blue ones. I have even measured them as a sandwich of two spacers and a bearing. Can someone with a high quality measuring device (mine is not) prove me wrong?
Dang it, now I want to do this. And good reason to buy a new tool
I will be doing my best to document my progress here, and would love to see others do the same! I believe it was @Exmime original intent anyway haha.
Realized I had a clear initiator collecting dust in a box. Watched one video and already up to like 20 loops on dominant, and 10 on non-dominant! All them fixie regens really paying off lol.
Does everyone else’s dominant hand turn into a Mr. Burns/dinosaur arm while they’re doing off-hand loops? Or just me?
I have not noticed a dinosaur arm…
If you can already do 10 or 20 loops that’s awesome!
I developed a simple neutral tension progression I go through for practice based on @Exmime’s advice (I’ll find and link in a bit). My current routine is 10 hop the fence, 10 inside loops, 10 outside loops, 10 inside loops, and then repeat as desired. When I’m working specifically on stamina I just alternate an equal number of hop the fence and inner loop (like 20 and 20).
I haven’t found a good routine for two handed practice, so right now I’ve just been counting reps and setting realistic goals (which is like 4 per hand) and trying to keep the whole thing clean.
Edit: this was the post @Exmime shared with me that was super helpful.
They have arrived! super tight gap with the red spacers, but I think I’ll keep it like this while I first learn. I was able to alternate left right loops like 5 each side, which I was not expecting.
If you have an extra set of 720s, or even if you don’t, I highly recommend giving this mod a try. Changes from a CBC Spec XS (corrected from A) to a B bearing. Very different feel.
Wait, 720s use A bearings?
I believe it’s a size K bearing. I don’t think they’re really used in anything else except the Mighty Flea.
Ohh yeah I grabbed the sunrise spacers and did just this. It feels great.
For those who never tried a YYJ looping yoyo, would this be of any performance benefit, or is it just to recreate the feel mainly for nostalgia?
