2020 String Fling!

“like…armpits…”

They have hair?
We coat them in chemicals?
Could always use more attention?
Shaving makes them itchy?
Always the first place to sweat?

…I’m so confused.

Finally had a free saturday to spin my 20. Got some whippy blue boys shipping out tomorrow along with some extra stickers and whatnot from YoYoExpert for everyone!

These are a poly/woolly nylon mix. Never actually had any feedback on them, I’ve only made them for myself in the past and enjoy the combo so looking forward to what others think.

Yeah! Same here! Glad too. Had to build a simple little 2 string rig.

Batch 2 is done.

I’m so glad you guys bought into this hair-brained scheme. I can’t believe people were like “nah, I’ll pass…” Sucks to be them! Hopefully we’ll see them next year. I’m going to kick things off earlier for 2021.

Attaboy. I think i’m going to start doing some experimental stuff just to see what happens.

Right after I finish the ACTUAL strings for this year… :frowning: :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

French strings! I mean, YoChoppa started this craziness in Canada, so we’ve BEEN international, but I think FRANCE makes it OFFICIAL.

The first annual International String Fling!!! Woot.

I was in from the announcement. Immediately started designing a new multi string rig with stepper motors, tension adjustments, etc. etc. Then the realization hit me, I don’t have the time/resouces to do it, so I passed. Time eroded that idea. K.I.S.S. I just grabbed some 8x3x1’s at the hardware store, some hooks, spring, and a quick 1 day rig was made. A trip to Joann’s to supplement the Signature Pixelles thread I already bought, and some strings were made. More are being made. For fun.
There is variation I could reduce and even eliminate. Some string slapped wood creating a tiny fray here and there I could eliminate. Many new recipes I could create won’t be created because I didn’t buy all the crazy thread to test em.

But so what! I’m in!

I’ve had fun and rocked out. Most thread was made while Ozzy’s latest album blasted and the sub shook the room! That album is the equivalent of Vonnegut’s ‘A Man without a Country’. Probably the last album he will ever make. As he said, “my time is running out… forever”.
Ours is too, so make some string you yoyo fools, it’s what makes them work. It is the tire’s to your ride, “ride hard”! - Dewey Cox

This! I was previously making strings with a couple of very short pieces of 4x4 with hooks. When I did the initial twist the string would drag the far end piece of wood across the kitchen floor and I’d count the linoleum squares to measure reduction. The results were inconsistent. When this came up I immediately jumped into design mode for a fancy semi-automated multi-string rig… and quickly gave up due to time constraints. The afternoon single string rig was born on a Saturday, and Sunday was spent rocking out spinning strings.

Solidarity!

I was thinking of calling my strings ‘Doobie Snack Strings’ years ago, inspired from the van scene in the Jay and Silent Bob movie. Also, because it would be neat to have individually wrapped strings and they would stay clean. But I imagine this could be controversial? Because, well, as the photo shows, the papers were made in France! JK

Actually it’s because you have to lick them to seal the tobacco papers and I’ve drank a Corona beer before and over 1/3 of americans polled think the beer is linked to the Covid19 virus. But my team of scientist have found a solution! Use a sponge whetted with Fuji UV sterilized water instead of a toungue! Plus, I wasn’t about to lick em anyway.

If you are down to wrap 'em, I’m down to smoke…uhhh…SHIP them.

Cool. No offense meant to Arlequinlover on my joke. I was pointing out the silly nationalistic riff the US has had with France over the decades. Like the Freedom Fries movement.

Some color combo test. I couldn’t believe I didn’t think of a dark string listening to Ozzy, the Prince of Darkness! But in testing dark string can be hard to see.
