I think, for the most part, Superstar and Shutter can do the same things. They are both solid, stable, and they can go as fast as you want them to go. They are both advertised as competition yo-yos for the same reasons. Whether you prefer Superstar or Shutter might depend on how they look, how they feel in your hand, or how much they cost relative to what you have to spend. So, having said that, what is “better” would just be my opinion. I, personally, would rather play a Superstar, by a hair. Shutter is fantastic and can do as much for you at a different price point, with tons of different looks available too. So, others might prefer Shutter. I think Superstar has even more of the “good qualities” than Shutter has.
My earlier point was just that, if Superstar should evolve, and YoyoFactory has a design for a competition yo-yo, that’s solid, stable, and fast, why not call it the new 2016 Superstar? If they had the Shutter design and wanted to call it a Superstar, that might be a surprise to me. But, while this is different looking, it’s not shockingly different, and it still has the same feel Superstar is known for. I hope that helps explain it a little better.
This is the sound of the hooks sinking in. There is a fine line between hobby and addiction. Most pass that barrier within the first week or so. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
WELCOME!!
There is really quite an astonishing amount of beauty in yoyos once you appreciate the art. I for one don’t get to open my superstar until christmas, and all this build up is making me so excited to try it out…
This was supposed to happen to my superstar too, but i bargained with the wife, and persuaded her to let me open it as I gave her one to open too. It worked, but just barely. hahahaa
The Dogma has really grown on me, I liked it a lot from the initial throw but now I’m loving it even more. The TooHOT is okay, but not really my style. It’s too wide and the shape doesn’t fit my hand too well. It spins forever though and is versatile, but is not one of my favorites.
How about you guys? How have the yoyos grown on you since you opened them? It’s 12:48 AM here, I turn 17 today, and I need to study for my physics test What a life
Totally dig the Dogma too, at first I was like, ok this is pretty nice and now I just love it more and more.
The TooHOT isn’t anything new to me and like you Buggot, not really my style in that I like mid to small sized throws and it’s a bit too big for me too.
The Aviator also plays great but in terms of shape, the H profile isn’t really a fav so falls under where the TooHOT is, plays good but not a fav for sure.
That said, they are all definitely players and more then worth the low price to acquire!
I was unsure of the dogma when I heard it was in the box. I never loved the shape, and never heard any stellar reviews of it. But the dogma is seriously one of my favourites now. It plays fast and light, which fits my style perfectly. The Too Hot has always been a Throw that looked really nice, and was a yoyo I always wanted, and I was excited that my box had one. But when I first tried it, I was kinda dissapointed. It grinds forever, which is nice but not a necessity. The way it played just wasn’t my favourite. But as I kept playing with it, the shape grew on me, and I was liking it more and more. I just had to get used the the extra wide profile, and extra rim weight. Now it is one of my favourites as well. The superstar was love at first sight. When I gently opened the package the SS rim sparkled in my eye, and I knew it was the one. I let her rip, and instanly fell in love again. I am in love with the looks and the play. The superstar is just too good of a yoyo. You can feel the power of the rims, but it still bounces on the strings like a cotton candy unicorn. It zips through the air like lightning, yet spins long and powerfully like a bull charging at red.
TLDR; The Dogma, Too hot and Superstar all play amazing!
Love the Superstar and can’t stop carrying it, didn’t dig the Dogma, I like the Aviator but not as much as my Galaxy version (different finish), haven’t thrown the Too H.O.T. or Czech Point yet (waiting until they’re photographed for the Museum).
3 days ago I got my package (about time!!) and sadly no Ti Dream hahaha. Still I got 3 beautiful yoyos that play amazing. I got a blue TooHOT, green Dogma and blue Superstar (Kittystring instagram reposted a while ago if you want to see them). As a peruvian is not that easy nor cheap to buy a Yoyo here, so they are the only unresponsive yoyos I have after my first (Duncan Echo) and they feel so smooth like something I have never felt before (they are truly different)
My superstar has been my #1 throw since I got it. Was unsure of it at first, felt it was slippy in the bind and i didnt like the bearing.
Swapped it out for XWing Terrapin Ceramic, Toxic Yellow jacket strings, and gave some time for the red response pads to break in, and now its one of my favorites. I dont mind if it gets dinged (too late!) as its a YYF and will likely be widely available once it hits the market properly as i really doubt its going to be a limited run like, say, my Lost in Space Orca.
My first BiMeatal as well and i really like it. Comfy, strong, and hyper stable. It gyro flops in slo motion. really like it. I carry on my Decender holder everywhere. A+ throw!
Got my Superstar today, in dark blue. Didn’t really like the color at first but it’s grown on me already. It performs amazingly: light, nimble and stable.
However, the yoyo is not exactly smooth, as in it has fingernail vibe. Kinda bummed about that. Is this a bearing/tuning issue that can be fixed? Haven’t unscrewed it yet…
