Just opened up my B box.
Got a Cyborg 2.0 and Aviator 2
Shoot! You got a good one!
Ive viewed these forums for quite a long time but never really talk much and just created an account recently. When I saw these mystery boxes announced I had to grab all 3 because of the hype that seemed to surround them and it seemed to be such an amazing steal! Boy am I glad I did, this was a crazy good deal for what I got! Before buying these I only had a Shutter, Replay Pro, and a few plastics like FH Zero… Now that I have all these, it is hard to choose which to use haha.
Box A: Blue? Dogma
Blue w/ Black speckles Too H.O.T.
Box B: Gold Aviator 2
Purple Aluminum Dream
Box X: Teal/Light blue Superstar
Thanks YYF and YoyoExpert for the crazy deal! Now I can’t even decide what to throw each day

The mystery box’s this year were too hot
Looking forward to the next one
Same here! Can’t wait for the next mystery box!
How could they possibly top this?
Titanium ;D

I don’t think anyone will want to buy it for $90 unfortunately, since everyone had the chance to buy it for $50. $50-60 is probably the most you can sell it for.
iwonder why they continued to ride on the name Superstar. the new one looks nothing like the last one…
I agree. It’s shape is different enough that it could be a completely different yoyo. They’re most likely riding it for name recognition. It’s hard to find anyone that hasn’t heard of the superstar.
The name doesn’t bother me to be honest. Though a variation to the name would have been good like the Superstar SS (Stainless Steel) just to avoid confusion from the original Superstar.
As far as price goes when or if it releases solo at full price, I can see it selling for $100. Look at the Ti Dream…$200 (during the campaign) got you a titanium, an aluminum, and I believe the plastic Daydream. $300 now gets you a single yoyo once it hit the shelves.
I think it’s a good time for the Superstar’s look to evolve. I’m sure, after a while, there’s only so much you can do to tweak an older design. So, I’m happy to see it look a lot different. Also, I think the Superstar is more associated with it’s dependability on performance, more than the specific look it is known for. As long as it maintains the performance qualities that Superstar is known for, the name seems to fit. But, that’s just my opinion.

this is not where you advertise your belongings. Keep it in the bst.
I’d have to agree. For those that got the Aviator 2, that was a pretty extensive change from the original as well; I don’t think it’s really anything like it’s predecessor. Granted, that got the 2 appended to the name, but the Superstar also has 2016 in its naming to distinguish it as a newer model.
I’m still pretty new to all this, so please help me out. Other than the pile of old Yomegas I bought new back in 1998, my only yoyo is a black-speckled Shutter.
I bought it about a month ago, and I’ve been messing with it a lot. I really like it.
So I impulse bought the Mystery Box X while on here looking for new strings, and two days ago a shiny back Superstar arrives in my mailbox. (Would’ve preferred not having a second black yoyo, but its pretty enough that I can deal. )
I really like the way it plays. It definitely feels different than the Shutter, but I can’t really put my finger on how to describe it. Obviously the steel rings will give the Superstar a greater moment of inertia, and I noticed right away that it returns to my hand with a bit more force than the Shutter.
The differences in shape are pretty obvious as well, but I’m not really sure what performance benefits each would have over the other.
How would you all describe how the Superstar plays vs the Shutter? What does one do better than the other? At what do they each do well in general? At what are they not as good? And what qualities are the Superstar known for?
I don’t have a ton of experience with those two, but in general, bi-metals are more stable.
They will spin longer and resist getting put off axis (ie Gyroscopic flop).
The Shutter is fairly nimble I think, but a lot of it will come down to how it feels to you.
Try doing the tricks you know, with one, then switch to the other.
You will notice how different it feels, probably as soon as you throw a breakaway.
Got my X today and bargained with the wife to open it early. No Ti Dream but i LOVE my new Superstar!
Got the dark blue one (the one I wanted most)
Swapped the bearing out to my preferred one and after the red response pads started kicking in, its fantastic. Was a lil slippy at first but i attibute that to the pads needing a slight break-in. 20 or so throws and it really starts getting a grip. Love the power and nimble-ness of it. Changes direciton like the shutter, but has the heft-in-hand like the orca. Doesnt feel heavy on the string at all. GREAT throw.
When I bought the Shutter, in my mind I was throwing down. But then I found out it was considered "budget ", and that there were even more expensive yoyos.
I couldn’t wrap my head around what that would feel like, since the Shutter already felt “high end” to me.
Holding the Superstar, though, I now understand. There’s just something about it. The edges are sharper. The curves are smoother. The Shutter never felt “cheap” until I held the Superstar. It really is a beautiful little thing. Even judged purely on its aesthetics it is a work of art.
At first I was disappointed they weren’t doing splash or speckle designs on them. (I’m a big fan of those) But the solid color really does justice to its elegantly simple curves.
Sorry if I’m sounding pretentious. I bought the Shutter to have as a toy, and was totally not expecting to start seeing yoyos as more-or-less mechanical art pieces.
