I have a Playmaxx Bumble Bee yo-yo in its original packaging and was wondering if they are worth anything today? It appears the extra brake pads are missing but the yo-yo and extra string are there. I remember playing with these when I was a kid and they were really fun.
If it is not worth a fortune then I would be interested in it. But I think it all comes down to the person you are selling it to.
My guess is no. I bought a couple of unopened, MIP TBBs for $8-$10 each a couple of years ago. There are special branded versions that may be worth more but probably not so much for a stock version. In any event, keep your day job.
Looks like it’s circa 1997 before Playmaxx was purchased by Duncan in 2001. You can read about it here.
I doubt it would be worth all that much. Not more than $15, but probably not even that because it isn’t complete (i.e. doesn’t include the extra cork response pads). But you never know until you put it up for sale somewhere.
EDIT: sniped by jhb!!
Thanks everyone for the information so far. I tried looking it up online to see if anyone was trying to sell one anywhere and the only one I could find was the yo-yo itself (no packaging or extras) on eBay for $30. I suppose I could list it there and see what happens. When it comes to Playmaxx my hope is one day I’ll get my hands on one of those cold fusion yo-yos in its original packaging. I wanted one when I was a kid, but couldn’t afford it.
In Playmaxx packaging (the plastic box) it would be worth more, but the plastic clam-shell Proyo Bees were very common and there are still a lot around packaged. Good luck on your dream of buying a Cold Fusion, they come up on eBay quite often and are a great collectible - I think I owned just about every different kind at some point or another, but now I have none left. Maybe someday I’ll pick up another…
