When I graduated undergrad in the late 1990s too. Back then college costs were through the roof too. The only reasonable alternatives were community college or state university back then. To attend my school and live on campus back then, it was $28,000. I was able to work the scholarship angle back then, to make it something I could afford. I left 4 years with $10,000 to pay back, which was good back then. Long paid off now.
I will say one thing though. The school I really wanted to go to back then, just did not offer the financial aid package that said they really wanted me. I was so happy I got in, but was torn because another school offered me so much better, but my heart wasn’t set on attending. I guess I was a practical person even as a 17 year old making the decision, because I went to the school where I paid less to attend.
My advice is as RobK said. You may want to go where your parents went to school, where your friends are going, or where there’s your favorite sports team, but at the end of the day, find a school that really wants you and will help you leave college without a mountain of debt. Don’t pick the school, let the school pick you by coughing up some money. Apply to a bunch of schools and see what they will offer you. Also, diversify your applications to community college, state schools and private institutions. See who will give you the best opportunity.
Rob was delivering pizzas. Hmmm…I worked in the library during the school year, and worked at an insurance company doing clerical work during the Summers. In graduate school I had two jobs and worked in the law library and a law firm. I have some friends who worked security, which can have a lot of down time where you can study at work. That’s what I liked about the library…I could read until someone wanted to check a book out
You guys will find ways to work while in college, and defray some of the costs.
Thanks for the love and support, much appreciated and im looking at the site atm. well if it helps, I can link you to my tumblr, so you can get a glimpse of whats on the blueprints, Btw the name of my tumblr is the name of my brand.
Most of it is fashion, but you’ll see some other things like art I preferably like, destination, on occasion females and ETC
Eyy that’s wassup, I Plan on doing that in the future, the thing is my fashion sense is very different and trying to spread the streetwear trend from where im from
I saw your tumblr. You like urban fashion…and so do I ;D I see you’re digging A$AP too haha. He is known for a certain fashion and style all his own compared to others in that industry. So, what is your favorite brand fashion-wise, other than your own?
By the way, I’m in the midst of a transaction with BCMadDog. I will update with some photos when I get the throw back. He is speckling a P.S.G. for me. Stay tuned…
I went to a private school for their internationally recognized physics program. All and all it was close to $150,000 for four years… I got over half paid, but it’s still close to $60,000 in debt… Plus I switched majors to math…
With a grueling schedule I’m not sure I could’ve handled a job… There was plenty of work study on campus, but that certainly wouldn’t help you pay your way…
The really sad thing is I make over 40k a year snapping cards at a casino… Which requires no degree… I could’ve done this for five years and paid for college with cash…

^ The little person is awesome Abby. Pretty cool that you do all that intricate work. How long does it take you to craft one piece? How many pieces have you made so far?
I make a lot of this stuff when i feel like it i think i have made 50+ peices i have made and sold. But most of the time it doesn’t take much time unless i am preparing for a showcase thing to sell my stuff. However for 1 bracelet it takes about 20 or more minutes depending on what it looks like. Right now i am thinking aout putting my wire jewelry on esty but i am still not sure.
I was in the craft store the other day, and snapped a few photos for the guys of the paracord and Duct tape sections. I’ll post those photos soon. Pretty interesting stuff those guys are doing craft-wise. I was in the store looking for potential photo background materials. I would have been curious to see what materials you are working with. I remember seeing some of the beads, but not so much the wire. How much do you charge per item?
I make and sell an off shoot of the duct tape wallet, clear packaging tape wallets with trading cards sealed in the tape, they are great for apealing to multiple generations, baseball card wallets for adults and pokemon card wallets for teens and kids ;D
I’ll post pics soon
I’d love to take a look. Always nice to see when people are creative with things. So, do you mean you could take a YYE trading card, and make a wallet with that visible on the outside?
Sorry I missed this post Abby. I just realized it while reading back through that I did not respond to this. You mentioned about making jewelry in another thread. I forget what the topic was, but when you mentioned it again here, I remembered it.
Yes I was thinking exactly that, It would actually be 7 trading cards one split to make 2 credit card slots
Here are some example pics, the ID badge is a little warped. They aren’t like this in the new ones I make. This was my original prototype, and the wallet I still use today
Open with cards and ID badge
Money pocket open
And closed
I sold these out of my backpack in school to students and one to a teacher (that’s where I got the baseball card one) But I’m thinking of starting an etsy or something to make myself a little spending money.
Thanks Abby, you think I could sell them on a larger scale than just ny school? I’ve gotten mixed reception on them, collectors often say I’m wasting cards but I really only use common cards, I sell any rare cards I find as singles for more than the whole wallet <.<
