Staring at all these clutch systems and mechanical bits and trying to will myself to not develop a new hyper fixation here.

You can blame the one YouTube short with like 12 likes that was fed to me of someone throwing one and going “oh mannnn, classic” and nostalgia hitting me painfully hard

Yeah I’m hooked. Checks patent expiration, orders yo-yos, scribbles “open source brain and fireball” on todo list.

Great news, it works!

@yoyospirit had jogged my memory of a rusty old brain knock off in my attic

And after some cleaning up with alcohol and pen knife, I determined it was slightly too wide, and and sanding down the oring side on some sandpaper to pull the string gap of the spool center as well, polished the axle, added some super lube extra thick and well,

This bad boy is dialed in.

Thank you all for your help! I can give measurements, but I think we should wait for the official spool to be located to get good specs

I can’t stop smiling throwing sleepers with it

Fireball is my all time favorite yoyo

If you get sucked into the very cool engineering challenge of making your own brain yoyo, playing with an actual brain yoyo and trying to do tricks with it for 10 min will cure that. Or at least it did for me.

I managed to land one wrist mount with mine, almost got a pic of it spinning and then it did its thing lolol. Still fun to chuck around imo, some looping and attempting trap stalls. Just a goofy lil guy

A brain is a nice mindless tossing throw. Theres a certain charm to it

Definitely goofy and fun in it’s own way. I was able to land a few 0A combos by adding lots of pinwheels between stalls, and listening closely to time the stall when the rpms were low enough that it would actually respond. Trapeze and brother were easy enough after I got the hang of it, don and lunar stalls were a bit more tricky. But after a while, the unpredictable response became more frustrating than fun, at least for me.
