D.I.Y. Troubleshooting Help

I’ve got a DocPop DIY, which I absolutely love. Lately, though, it’s been making a REALLY weird rattling noise, and losing spin really fast and will randomly go responsive. It hasn’t acted like this at all previously.

I’ve tried swapping bearings, using thinner string, etc…

Maybe someone else here has ad this issue an can steer me in the right direction.

Probably obvious, but you made sure the other bearings you tried are good in other yoyos first, right? If so then check the spacers. Are they both installed, in the proper orientation, and fully pressed into the yoyo?

This is what it should look like

If the both spacers are installed, facing the right direction, fully pressed in, and there’s no debris or anything underneath them, then you can see if the hub pieces are fully seated into the cup of the yoyo. Just press on the little fingerspin bits in the cup to see if you can press then further into the yoyo. If you’re sure the bearing isn’t the issue then it’s probably the spacers or hub pieces.

One of the spacers fell right out when I took the bearing out. Sat it back in snugly, make sure the hardware was seated properly…and now it’s silent!

It’s now also fully responsive…

Bearing is good in other throws.

Are you sure the spacers aren’t upside down? What you just described makes it sound like you’ve got a clean bearing, but it can’t spin feely when it’s in your DIY. The spacers being installed upside down can cause that.

Need pics of the seat and hub

I’ve flipped each spacer both ways now. each side looks pretty much the same, except a small groove on one side .

Spacer and flipped spacer

Left side orientation is correct.

OMG. It took my macro lens for my old man eyes to see the difference. It’s working now!

Thanks, all!
