red/flowable silicone is horrible i hate it so much. every throw ive gotten with red stuff in it ive thought was just bad until i scraped it out and replaced it with regular/clear/grey. the worst pad is infinitely preferable to the best applied flowable.

Obviously. Until you need to clean them.

That’s what I’m saying, I will pick them and seat them every single time I clean them. Doesn’t feel right unless I do

hot take:

dont clean your bearings, just lube them

I’ve had mixed results with just lubing a bearing. Cleaning+lubing though I’ve never had an issue with any bearing.

Don’t clean your bearings just buy a new yoyo

Hot take: it doesn’t matter how allegedly high-performing/hyped/fancy/life-changing a yo-yo is, if it doesn’t come in a colorway that sparks joy I don’t want it :head_shaking_vertically: :sparkles: I’ve only encountered a handful of “bad” yo-yos, so if they’re all pretty good I might as well enjoy how they look (in general + on my shelf).

Yoyos are a waste of money… just like everything else I want to spend money on!

There is an over abundance of yo-yo companies for how many factories there are.

True. But what is the problem with that?

American sourced material for yoyos are priced way too high. The fact that a yoyo from China is still cheaper, even after international shipping and tariffs, is so not fair.

Just to elaborate a bit since i was thinking about it more, if I already rate a brand really highly I’m more likely to get a release from them outside of my preferences. Alternatively, if I see something in my preferred spec range it peaks my interest regardless of shape.

Or if I’m trying a new brand that specializes in wide comp bimetals, for example, I want to get a yo-yo that’s representative of that identity.

I will buy all “broken” yoyos.

I would love to see more companies invest in kids and clubs, as they are the future of the hobby.

Feel like 80% of yoyos look the same now on a finish basis, every color shade the same (china use cheap dye for every brand now), very very few unique finish, minus c3, at-design, g2 or USA yoyo

these all photograph of red yoyos come from the first 10 page of YYE, from many various brand. every shad of red the same, every yoyo made by same factory

(edit i am add this to my original post for those that doubt this the same color, it is. camera settings + polish vs blast make a difference in how color is percieved. they are the same all color, )

I do not like FPM manufactured yoyos shiny cheap metallic finish, and since the dominate the small brand space (for good reasons as USA too expensive as some say here for manufacture), it seem like every yoyo is made by 1 company now (not talking about physical design)

even when they beadblast some, over-use of chemical polish process leave them look cheap, and they don’t offer unique pigments. every brand look the same now. every shade color is the same across all brand, and the splashes look terrible now compare to 10 year ago

this photograph illustrate the shine effect I hate

If you started yoyo and this was already standard, you probably have no problems. I remember a time when many company had many unique pigments, finishes, and overall looked far more a premium product.
General yo unique finish, ILYY unique finish, CLYW unique finish. I can tell old SPYY,ILYY,CLYW apart from each other just from color pigment and finish type. This same cannot be said for most modern yoyo.

There was a time when only shiny-finish basic color yoyo were for cheap ali express $20 Audley knockoff, now it is standard for $100+ brands

look how many various shade of color and finish just from a few basic brand here:

anyway, this why I try to mostly collect old stuff unless something new havesome unique design,

don’t give me an answer on why you think this is or why it is good, I do not care. it is something that piss me off every day, you cannot change my mind with logic or reason, thankyou for reading

I agree with your main point about the uniqueness we used to have being lost, but those are clearly not all the same red.
