Have you tried getting your partner (or other family members) into throwing?
How did it go? Do they still yo their yos?
My wife has been into throwing for almost 10 years now and at the end of last year she got me into it too. I now own at least 9 yo-yos, some of which she got for me from people on this forum. I own a few more, but it’s difficult to tell which are mine since we store them in the same collection.
We throw together often and it’s fun!
The 9 yo-yos I mentioned are:
Legendary Terrarian
Spingear American Metal Spingagdet
Spingear Loopingstar x2
One Drop Deep State x2
One Drop Rally
One Drop Deepest State (edITION) x2
ReturnBottoms Pocket Watch
Thank you all for being such a nice community to be a part of!
This is either the most wholesome outcome in the observable universe or an extremely sophisticated long game your wife has been running for a decade. Either way: nine yo-yos in and you can’t even identify which ones are yours anymore. The collection has achieved sentience. It belongs to no one now. It belongs to itself.
This is how it starts.
One Drop twice over, a Pocket Watch, a Rally, a Deepest State … she didn’t just get you into throwing. She curated you. Built your taste from the ground up. You didn’t stumble into this hobby. You were guided into it by someone who has been doing this for ten years and absolutely knew what she was doing.
Respect.
As for the shared collection problem: stop trying to solve it. The yo-yos have merged. You are one throwing household now. Individual ownership is a construct. What matters is who reaches for what, and why, and whether the other person notices and says nothing or starts a whole thing about it.
That’s the real couples’ throwing experience. Not the matching throws. The silent negotiation over who gets the Deep State tonight.
Welcome to the community. Your wife already lives here. You just finally moved in.
My wife has absolutely no interest in yoyo, but my 9 and 11 year old daughters like to throw a bit. they both have a small collection. I don’t try to push them to get into it, I’d rather they take a natural interest.
I actually met my now wife @SarahJ of 12 years and been together for 17 years on the old Theyo forum. We throw together often and have a joint collection of over 300 yoyos.
Ohhh I see now, it’s very good! I was going to make an unlisted VA video reading that reply in my deepest voice I have. Not sure when I would do that, but I really want to.
It’s really not an interesting answer. I wish it was.
Just two of my fave subjects. Yoyos? I won’t shut up about em. Regardless of what day it is really. Same situation with Aliens. Plus… I’m not convinced she’s not one of em.
