Title above, there are many threads about halfswapping and a niche amongst people who want to do so. Why not create a thread people can check through and either DM or request their own?

Ah I see like a BST topic. Nothing to see here. Carry on ![]()
Yeahyeah! I would love to see a main topic point to showcase people’s options they have to offer, as well as which colour or variant they’d want. Someone could eventually offer to as they may be interested or not as caring as long as they have a full yoyo to play with and making someone else happy, or maybe hit the jackpot and find someyhing they too want to halfswap! Halfswaps are so cool.
That would generate some interest… The subject of half swap I mean…
The downside is that probably half the people t care for half swaps.
More people seem OK with yo-yos that have different colored halves from the factory. Seems to be fairly popular.
Which seems kind of peculiar that a good number of people don’t care for half swapping and some even mention they don’t like the way they look.
Another downside is that no doubt people have the best of intentions to swap halves with each other, sometimes, when you change the halves, one yo-yo will come even smoother any other yo-yo will come out with some degree of vibe, not exhibited by the other.
Some people would suggest that all halves should interchange simply because they’re all machine in the same batch by the same people to the same specs, blah blah blah. Regardless, it is not unusual for the people putting the yo-yo’s together at the factory to change out halves here and there to come up with a yo-yo that’s smoother.
Sometimes swapping halves with somebody else comes out perfectly. You switch around the halves in both yo-yos come out smoothest glass or close to it.
How do I know this? Answer is simple enough. Over a few decades I’ve probably done a dozen half swaps with people. About half the time the results are flawless. Both yo-yos spin equally as smooth as they originally did. The other half of the time, if I was the guy doing a swapping at my end, one yo-yo would spend smoother than the other. Sometimes really close on a scale of smoothness. And sometimes it was pretty obvious that both have swaps weren’t equal on a scale of sweetness.
What did I do when it was discovered on my end because the other guy sent me his yo-yo? Another simple answer. I decided which one was smoother of the two and I sent smoother one to the other person. Why? I guess I figured I’d feel like a jerk if I knowingly and deliberately kept a smoother one for myself and passed the one with the jitters to the other guy, lol.
But if you can deal with the reality that you may end up with a two color yo-yo that’s not as smooth as your original one color yo-yo, then there’s actually no problem. Yo-yos don’t have to spend perfectly shake free to play excellent. This smoothness factor is just something that is expected and appreciated as a positive view and acceptance that are the prices of modern yo-yos, the design and machining process should result in perfectly smooth yo-yo.
I mean if you get a $20 yo-yo and it shakes a little you shrug your head and you say hey it’s a $20 yo-yo oh well.
If you buy a $500 titanium yo-yo that sucker better spin like a silicone croc sliding down a sheet of butter glass.
The bottom line is the reality in life could parallel the choice of your favorite ice cream. You love a certain flavor. You love the way it looks you love the way it tastes and you’re outside eating ice cream and you ask your best. Best best friend, hey, do you wanna bite of this ice cream?
And your best friend says, no thanks I hate that flavor. Just the looks of it make me feel like puking.
There you go…
You and I @yoyodoc are in fact half brothers. Our Rainer experience worked out well with Eric’s help.
Here is a half swap that I did with one of the guys.
I’m sure a few people would find it psychologically disturbing since the halves have absolutely nothing to do with each other other than they’re from the same kind of yo-yo lol.
To me, The more different to halves are the better I like them.
I think this half swap is a pretty good example. And I really like it.
