Why do people think plastic yoyos hurt less than metal?

As title states, I’m wondering why people think plastics hurt less than metal? If there’s two yoyos, both with the exact same specs except the material used, and density of the material and weight distribution was the exact same, why would plastic hurt more? Is it the hardness of the material? Emotional damage? I’m interested to hear people’s thoughts on this.

If i hit you with a 10 lbs bag of rocks and a 10 lbs bag of kittens, which one is gonna hurt you more?

Theyre in a bag, and i havent see kitten claws made into tools or arrow heads

Pretty sure that could classify as animal cruelty depending on how the claws are harvested :joy:

The stones would hurt more because I feel like the weight distribution would be more spread out with the bag of kittens and they would probably be moving around more .

Plastic is softer than metal.

I’m going to disagree with everyone here. I may very well be wrong, I don’t know.

But plastic is not soft enough to hurt “less” than a metal yoyo. Neither one of them deform when they hit your face. They are both harder than you, and mass is mass

Ergo they hurt equally.

‘No rocks or kittens were harmed in the making of this post.’

I think it comes down to the shape of the yoyo. Some H and V shapes are pointy.

I’ve had this argument many times and I still feel like this is the correct answer.

You can decrease pain by increasing surface area of likely contact points, not by changing materials. Any material that is going to hurt less is going to be extremely difficult to make a half decent yoyo out of.

Not sure on metal but plastic is harder than teeth with the right amount of force applied

That’s definitely an edge case. You’re more likely to ding your lips than your teeth. Not impossible but I can’t see it being all that common to hit your teeth with a yoyo.

Plastic dissipates the energy of a hit way more than aluminium just by the fact its less dense.

Yea but it doesn’t lessen the initial impact. It needs to deform or break

All I know is if I cover my responsive yoyo in response pads i get both maximum responsiveness and minimal pain when it responds

It hurts me more when a metal yo-yo hits the ground than when a plastic yo-yo hits the ground.

I got hit in the head with a 10 pound Marshmallow sledgehammer one day.

When I woke up, I walked into the forest and started a campfire for some reason.

There’s s’more to the story but not now…:scream_cat:
