What’s your biggest yoyo regret? Did you trade a aquarius for 2 yomega raiders ? Did you drop your new yoyo on pavement right after opening it ? Did you mirror polish your rare pink YYF OG DNA ?
I’ve done all of these but what’s your biggest yoyo regret ?
This is the reason I don’t yoyo on concrete. For Christmas 2020, I had gotten 2 Oracles for looping. At the time, I had really wanted to try 2A. Fast forward maybe 2 weeks, and I’m outside showing my grandparents a 2-handed around the world. Me being the 9 year old kid that I was, I wasn’t smart enough to tell myself that I should’ve been practicing in the grass. But instead, I decided it was better to yoyo on my house’s driveway. Insert plastic hitting concrete sound here When I hit one of them on the pavement, it not only took a noticeable chunk out of the yoyo, it also somehow managed to mess up the bearing seat. That yoyo was wobbly as heck after that. One down, one to go. A few months later, with the other Oracle still working, there was a new tricks shot video from Dude Perfect. One of them was miniature bowling with a yoyo. I decided to replicate that trick. You might think that I had learned from the previous experience, and my then 10 year old self would think back. You would be wrong, as I try to replicate the trick shot not on a carpet, but a hardwood floor. I did land it after a few tries, but needless to say, I now had another vibey Oracle, and no yoyos to practice 2A with. The moral of the story is to not yoyo on hard surfaces, especially not 2A.
using vice grips/pliers to remove the bearing to bearing swap a brand new yoyo and scratching the ano finish. The yoyo still plays fantastic but it still bothers me that the yoyo isn’t pristine anymore.
Telling my wife how much I’ve spent in the last 2.5 years.
Handing my pristine 000 to the pretty bartender to try! Came right off her finger and bounced across the concrete floor!! The sound it made was quite pleasing though. Holy cow it rang!!
Trying to find the “best” first unresponsive yoyo to buy for multiple months. I wish I hadn’t spent so much time with my cheap, vibey plastic, and just gotten into unresponsive. Nowadays, almost every yoyo out there is capable, it just comes down to personal preference.
not figuring out how to loop and the importance of string length to do it correctly back when I started yoyoing in the mid 90’s.
Never getting any anti-yo or spyy yoyo’s at their peak.
missing the spectra ply tmbr eh drop at yye by minutes.
stopping learning new tricks in 2002-3 and waiting until 2022 to start learning new tricks again…
selling my a-rt squib that I got for free in a giveaway. that yo-yo was so unique and now I dont really have any wooden yo-yos. squib would’ve been great for my creative process these days.
traded a turning point palpitation for a recess vacation. I really wanted to get sponsored by recess and this occurred at a peak in the recess hype (circa 2017, probably 2016). so, I made the trade. well, I didn’t get sponsored by recess, and now I want the palp back. oh well.
I mirror polished an OG genesis. it was a beautiful red/black acid wash. but during the time, I was going through a phase of “yo-yo damage doesn’t matter”, so I purposefully scraped this yo-yo against the sidewalk and stuff, and eventually I just decided to experiment with mirror polish on it. well, I succeeded in polishing about half of the yo-yo and then gave up. the yo-yo became stripped in that process, and now I don’t ever play it anymore. I might have even thrown that yo-yo away…
Steel RSO Bowl + long string + hard wood floor = not a Round Spinning Object on one side any longer slight flat spot.
I will not get rid of the damaged Steel Bowl it sits on the widow sill in hands reach and is thrown once a day to remind me why I should throw the ones I love in a safe places and check string length with a controlled 1st check throw.
I regret selling my Atmos Ari. I spent a long time saving for that and it was my perfect yo-yo. Between the Ari and the RSO Mecha Bapezilla. I’ll never have either again but at least it’ll be a thoughtful Christmas this year.
The Loop 2020 system does not work well. The 2020 is much like a 720 the way it comes, which is fine. The results when changing up the various axle lengths, star response variations, and etc. just fail to work reliably. I have a large shoebox full of the parts. Pretty much a waste. IMVHO.
I’ve saved up my lunch money for a bnew Rebellion ACRO back in 2015, it was my first proper competition yoyo and I fell in love with the shape and weight. After 2 years I decided to sell it to fund my trip to 2017 Philippine national yoyo contest which I placed 2nd at that year. But when I had a extra budget to buy it back, my buyer also sold it to his friend and lost it.
