Best yoyo for $30. Been looking at the PGM. Also the POPstar.
If you go to the b/s/t you can probably get a raptor for about 20 or so.
counter attack, chaser, legacy, all great bi metals
jk, popstar, and shinwoo dolphin($32.00) all great metals
I would say go with the chaser, legacey, or the dolphin the thing with the popstar is it is to small for me and isn’t stable at all
save up $5 and get a protostar or northstar
I was thinking the same thing.
However, I’m eying quite a few YYJ plastics, including the Legacy II and Chaser. With so many people having fantastic feelings towards some of the lower-cost ones, such as the Kickside and Lyn Fury, it really says that preference is a major factor.
I can have loads of run with a ONE or WHIP at a mere $10, which has been great recently. I have a ONE, which matches what my kids have. My throwhand middle finger is all messed up right now as the callus is really building and the skin is dry and cracking. I had to give up my preferred heavier throws to rest it for a bit, so I had to go to my ONE and WHIP.
Everything has to have a price for the purposes of exchange. There’s a bunch of variables that go into determining price. You can’t put a price on the fun and enjoyment that one can get from a yoyo. The biggest thing is to best match the preferences of the end-user with the yoyo and hope they line up. If that works out, then it’s all good.
Sticking with the number specified by the original poster, the only thing I have at the $30 price is a PGM, which I got via a deal in BST, so I’m going off the new price. I enjoy it, but it’s not something I throw daily.
Close to that, I don’t really have anything. Everything is either way under or way over. Well, maybe not way over, but at least a bit.
I like the Hiroyuki Suzuki signature models, so the Chaser would be something I would probably say would be a winner, and is something I intend to purchase very soon, I just hope it is in the color I want(blue) within a month! For not quite as much money is the Legacy II, which is also on my “will purchase soon” list. The rest are in the sub-$20 range.
You may also wish to look at some of the new YYF Neon series, or maybe consider the DieNasty or Starlite models as well.
I also look at prices as a starting point. I also try to keep them as hard limits. Also keep the following concepts in mind:
When people are budgeting, are they thinking about the entire purchase? Sales tax, shipping are two factors to be calculated in. Accessories may be a issue to consider, such as things like a YYF multi-tool, replacement responses, lube, and of course string. I’ve seen a few puchases get dashed or delayed because they forgot to budget in for shipping.
For under $30, my favorite is the Starlite. Performs great and glows in the dark!
I have the one. And I love it xP But I just got the DV888 a few days ago. And hubstacked it(; plays great!
I decided to get the GrindMachine. The neon one. (also if any of you read/posted on my thread about a broken KK Bearing, i got a bearing removal tool also)
Chaser, protostar(advanced yoyo), legacy, or velocity.

Chaser, protostar(advanced yoyo), legacy, or velocity.
I would toss out the Protostar only because it retails for $35. Otherwise, yeah, it’s a fantastic throw for $35. Same with the Northstar if one prefers a heavier yoyo for the same price. I do strongly recommend those yoyos, especially since I have them both. My PGM, which I got used(barely used) via BST, well, I don’t play that one that much. Great, fun yoyo, just doesn’t seem to be one I seem to want to reach for as often.
I keep playing with my kid’s Legacy II. I gotta get that one after my next event and leave her’s alone!
I have a Chaser on the way to me right now. I can’t wait to get at that one, but I may choose to leave it at home when I’m out for 4 days doing sound production for an anime convention.
If my budget was 30 bucks, I would get a Freehand Zero, and a Whip… Tons of fun… I haven’t personally used a Whip yet, but I’ve thrown the Die-nasty and PGM, which share the shape of the whip and I loved both of those… And the One is a beast, so I’m sure the whip is as well. With the FHZ, if you break in the bearing, and use one fairly worn silicone friction sticker, you have a great plastic throw.
no joke the popstar is wwaaaayyy smaller than you think it is, I guarantee that if you do get it you will be surprised by the size. the whip is a great throw for just $10 really light though. just go with whatever tickles your fancy you can’t go wrong.
PSG is also good to consider

PSG is also good to consider
Yeah, I own plenty of high-end metals, and I plan to buy a PSG in the near future.
Yeah, I just got my PSG and its boss
Yeah, I just got my PSG and its boss
a very good yoyo i would recomend is go a bit higher and get a protostar, or if not the the velocity is a good bang for your buck its $20. then you can buy some poly string or something like that. so go for velocity
I have a question that should be easy for you guys to answer. What is a really good yoyo around 40 bucks (it can also be less) that is all plastic? I am looking for a pretty big sized yoyo, looks do not matter, brand doesnt really matter, unresponsive of course, and one that can take me to expert (1A). As for shape, I don’t really know. I dont really want it rounded, and I think H shape sounds good. I was looking at the protostar and northstar, however if you guys have some other recommendation, please tell. I could you guys describe the difference in play between these two and also how the starlite is compared?
I think you nailed it. Protostar is lighter and faster, while the Northstar is heavier and slower. $35 each, and each fantastic in their own right. I haven’t played the Starlite but it’s supposed to be like the Protostar except lighter. It’s probably not any faster though, which is a good thing.
It seems like after that price point, you get into metal/plastic yoyos.
I think I forgot to mention that I probably want a heavy yoyo to. I currently have a dark magic and an axiom and I dont like the shape or size of the axiom’ I prefer the size and shape of the dark magic, if that helps you in recommending me. Based on prices and the fact that the 3 yoyos are not too different, maybe I should go with the starlite; it is a lot cheaper after all.
