Mostly due to lack of impulse control.
Some were so I could do half swaps with or without the intent of selling/trading the other halves, others are just favorite yoyos that I wanted in multiple colorways.

I have a couple Hydrogen Crashes back when they used to be my favorite yoyo (they’re still very much a beloved yoyo of mine but they are no longer quite #1). If money ever allows i intend to collect all the colorways as it was also my first fancy bimetal.

If I get a yoyo with a colorway considered “rare” I typically seek out an additional colorway to play comfortably. Sometimes I also just like the yoyo a lot. I have

I own 3 Galaxy colourways of the Baryon bc it was and still is the endgame of what beautiful looks like on a yo-yo to me. I may pick up a second Speedaholic XX, as most should if they’re into EDC’s for unresponsive (If I do, I plan on getting glow-in-the-dark green so I can practice at night since I walk so much). There are some others I want more than one of, like the Plasma Crash, but that’s a very expensive route to go for someone like me who wants a lot of variety to try out.
Anyways, make sure to atleast have one duplicate of your favourite throw so you don’t fear ruining it.

Aside from the highly collectible butterflies, and a few Yomega plastics,
I have 2 888x’s but one has a 3/4 Ultum blank. I also have one 888 reissue, and one 66% 888, but they aren’t really the same. The reissue and the X’s are very very similar tho.
3 Freehands, one is a Zero, the others are Ones.
2 Plasms, one is running a Lemon bearing making it unresponsive.

There were a couple/few others where I got duplicates up front, keeping one in the box “just in case” something happened, but I’ve sold or traded those away for the most part.
A few classic CL and OD where I had a beater but then found a cleaner one or a nicer color or they re-ran them.
A couple of Plastic Fulvias for the pipe dream of having the time/patience to get a taste of 3a.
An extra Pleak bec someone gave me one.
..and a few Whip, Butterfly and other sub $10 plastics so I have replacements when they break or get given away.

most of my yoyos i have doubles of, or am trying to. i like to get the various al grades of each model too. for example, the mfd 2evil came in 6061, 7068 & 7075. i have one of each of the 7068 and 7075, two of the 6061. the mfd prime8 came in 6061 and 7075, i have one 7075 and three 6061. i have several doubles in my collection that were gifts too. with some brands, i won’t necessarily spring for a ti version of a model that’s been released in al6 or al7. same with bimetal versions. some iterations i can really get on board with, others it seems redundant or a little cash-grabby than experimental or ‘improving on’ the previous model.

Rev 1 is a phenomenal player. Heavy, stable, powerful. Got the solid so I could use it to learn new tricks without worry of damaging a nicer colorway. Would love to find a Rev 2, but none I’ve come across had the box, and that’s a must with this.
Got the Intro to compliment my Nitro. Not sure why I picked up the second…
