What is your most meaningful yoyo?

Personally my favorite is Hinemosu from TP which I like everything except for it’s price, but since it was literally ‘Turning Point’ of my yoyo life (it was also the first high end bi-metal yoyo I bought, and has the signature from Takeshi on it) I think Colony has the most meaning for me
So… do you have any yoyo that has meaning for you?

Yoyo with the most meaning is probably the top right, Unspoken Apollo. I got back into yoyoing after dropping it by watching Alexis JV tutorials back in like 2015-2016 and finding one of my old yoyos (YYJ lyn fury, which would be here instead if I didn’t lose it  ), and the Apollo was my first high end modern monometal (the most premium yoyo I had experienced until then was the YYJ X-convict), I think I used it exclusively for an entire year in my college dorm. I still remember putting a 2 inch gash in my wall after snapping a string on a relatively aggressive breakaway, then standing in-front of it the entire time during the move out walkthrough to avoid paying for the damage.

Citizen and Project on the top left, I’m still slowly working on my mission to own 1 of every onedrop (the best machinists in the game), though I’ve basically given up on Wooly Markmont/Sovereign/Markmont Project. Ignoring those I am currently missing just a few…

Bottom row is TP. You know them. You hate them. Maybe you love them? Specifically here Alnilam, Mustang G5, and Mustang ES. If I had to sell my entire collection overnight and I could only keep 5 yoyos, 4 of them would be TP and the other one would strictly exist to remind me how much better the TP yoyos are in comparison. I’m not really sure what force or being put the TP shape in Kentaro’s head, but I’m glad they did.

Around 1998 Yomega had this promotion, If you could complete a set number of tricks they would give you this yoyo as a prize. I was a kitty hawk kites in North Carolina. My parents bought me a Yomega Brain and I battled so hard to learn the tricks. Eventually after some blood, sweat and tears I got the prize yoyo, the pro spinner!

A few years later I traded it at a yoyo comp in 2001 :disappointed_relieved: (for something forgettable :man_shrugging:)

Fast forward to 2023, even though I don’t have this yoyo any more, it is still the most meaningful yoyo I’ve owned…and by far, the yoyo I regret getting rid of the most…

A decade ago when I was like 12, the only yoyos I had were a fireball and YYF ONE, and I was using the limited number of strings I had until they snapped even if they had knots in them bc I didn’t have any means to get a nicer throw or gear at the time. Someone on the forums ended up gifting me a Markmont Next (even though he was kinda broke himself and only had 2 throws at the time) and another person ended up sending me extra strings.

Honestly, if I never got that MMN, there’s a good chance I would’ve quit and never gotten super into it. That yoyo was like a gamechanger for me. Looking back, it’s funny bc it’s like the worst throw in my collection for a while now objectively speaking :joy: But the ONE was just… so bad

My beat up old Raider got me back into yoyo

My roadster is similar to what my dad had and lived on a shelf next to his ashes

The spinstar is the first yoyo my wife bought me.

My most " meaningful " yoyo…???

Easily…hands-down, that would be my General Yo - Majesty - Solid Grey - Bad Azz 2020 edition

I mean I recently discovered that in some boxes at the folks house, was my Duncan Imperial from when I was a kid…but that would be marked as " special ". But I never learned how to actually use that one.

When I decided that I Was, Indeed actually going to seriously learn the ways of the Yo…to do something totally unexpected from me…including myself…and anyone else…and when one of my original thoughts was " What kind of yoyos are people using these days " and so I was looking though uTubes of people yoyo collections…one of which contained this yoyo…and I just went " Wow…Ive got to have one of those ".

But I knew nothing of how to get one…zippo…nada, including what a task it would be to get one. So I simply wrote a yoyo retailer who previously sold them. Of course he none…but he did give me instructions on how I “might” get one…if I was veeerry lucky. And so with a smirk in his words and a " Good Luck "…he sent me on my way.

At the time, I was still working on landing a trapeze with a simple beginner yoyo, and having a hard time at it.

One of his instructions was join a yoyo forum and look in the BST section. I knew of none or what a BST section did. Eventually I ended up here at YoyoExpert and joined and then had to learn everything needed to accomplish my goal - what kind of topics where here, how to go about things, how to create posts, all that.

Well…after gaining all that knowledge, luck Finally did favor me one day and a member here had a Bad Azz he was willing to give new home and so I got it.

When it arrived I was actually proud of myself that I had accomplished this task. It also marked the point where I told myself I was serious about learning the ways of the Yo, and all that implies.

and Yes…I can land a Trapeze now.

That yoyo looks familiar . Glad it made it to your hands, a very fun story of how you took the dive into the hobby!

My General Yo 5 Star. Ernie gifted me this throw several years ago after I sent him a combo video I’d made. Learning that I didn’t have any metal yoyos, and being the kind man that he is, he sent me my most incredible yoyo of all time. For that, I am permanently appreciative. General Yo is an amazing and innovative company and I love them.
