Title asks it all
none.
I have a great lathe from centeral machinery 7 by 10 harbor freight 499 but in super chevy or motortrend mag (all i know of) have a 20% off cupon too.And you can go to the store and pick it up.http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-x-10-inch-precision-mini-lathe-93212.html
I’ve heard some good things about this lathe too…http://www.harborfreight.com/5-speed-bench-top-wood-lathe-65345.html
If nothing else, check sites like craigslist for locals. You could get a deal. As for buying them new, it’s very hard to find them under $200
you dont use wood lathes for modding
Make sure that you are absolutely sure of what you are saying before you say it. I know a few guy’s that mod on a wood lathe. They are really good at it too.

but it will take a LOT of practice
Bro it takes a lot of practice no matter how you do it. Trust me.
Yep, it’s really easy to make a pile of colorful shavings with nothing to show for it.
Yes it is!

HA! I don’t use a lathe at all for modding!!!
…and like Icthus already stated, its been done, and done well I might add.
I belive its a heck of a lot easier to use a metal lathe.
That I will agree with.
Once I start using the lathe in engineering class at school to make dogbones, and I get good at it, I am gonna save up for one.
