Here in Indonesia, most people consider classmates and people you know as “friends”, but over time I realize it’s different for other countries. And then there was an anime about friendship where people who don’t have friends formed a club about “making friends”, they hang out each other, fight each other, but still don’t consider their clubmates as friends, which I think is ridiculous. I know it’s anime but…
Anyway, what do you think?
Also, do you think forum “buddies” are friends, or are they different?
a friend is someone you enjoy spending time with who also enjoys spending time with you…

I think anyone who listens to me.
Whether im annoying or I’m doing some great talking.
And even gives me advice the best one.
Is my buddy.
That means if forum buddies are like that they are my friends.
And is someone you can talk freely with.
Part of the difference in what “friend” means in different countries can actually be a language difference more than a cultural difference (although it can certainly be both). The word “friend” in English can be applied to a variety of similar relationships that may all have distinct words in another language (i.e. tomodachi, nakama, etc in Japan have overlap with the English word friend). Similarly, English has some synonyms or slang terms that also mean “friend” but have their own connotations (i.e. buddy, pal, mate, bro, etc) that won’t all have direct equivalents in other languages, or distinct words for other relationships that might be covered by the same word as “friend” in another language (i.e. neighbor, classmate, co-worker, etc). So to some extent I think it seems like different cultures have different standards for friendship when in some cases they just have different vocabulary to describe similar standards.

In the USA a friend is basically someone you like doing stuff with and enjoy each others time. Like at my school I don’t consider all my classmates my friends because frankly, there’s too many idiots in my school that get caught up on superficial things. I think the USA idea of friends is very much the same on the forums.

a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically exclusive of sexual or family relations.
For me it is anyone one in the world (maybe?).
