Color theory is used by artists when creating new pieces. They don’t just pick random colors they like. Complimentary colors, warm colors, cool colors, analogous colors etc… are all factors to consider when creating something with color.
It’s not as simple as I think these colors would look cool, I’m going to use them.
Basically the number of steps involved. There’s a lot that goes into them. I get where you’re coming from though, most of my yo-yos are solid, and I don’t usually care for busy colors, but I worked with anodizers at a previous employer (totally unrelated to yo-yos) and I can appreciate the work that goes into what they do
Kinda. If you look at most of their work, you’ll see a base that’s two or more colors. Then with the splash, you’ll see both sharp edges on some of the splash, and then also faded edges on other parts of the splash. Each application is a different technique. It’s an art, for sure. All anodizing pretty much is. But what they do is very labor-intensive
That’s definitely still solid work, but really the “sponging” technique is what’s adding the pop there (to my eye, at first glance). All the other colors seem to be applied using the same method. Now, using the same method doesn’t nmean fewer steps, and I’m definitely not trying to downplay the work there. It’s just that MonkeyfingeR uses techniques all over the board, on almost every yoyo.
Go YYF and YYE I’ve had spectacular service from both. If you don’t like that death adder, I’ll take it off your hands, but I really hope you do! I’m becoming a big fan of Reticulated.
Yeah I’m really hoping I like it cuz it looks fantastic, I got the Planet Sadala colorway and my goal is to use it for 5A. I don’t really have any wants for 1A besides completing my polished Wide Angle set. I’ve been using my Good Life Gulches for 5A and they’re definitely better for me than anything else I own but I just wish it were a little more stable and long spinning.
Everything I’ve heard about the DA2 says it fills those needs I just have a very particular feel in mind. It can’t feel light on the string but it also can’t feel overly heavy. I’m a little nervous in that regard as I owned a Bliss which is I think the same weight and very similar amounts of rim weight and it had a slightly heavier string presence than I liked. But I only used it for 1A and it’s entire rim was an ss ring and it had a wider body so we’ll see.
This arrived all the way from Australia today. @Glenacius_K made this from Photina wood from a tree at his childhood home. I’ve only thrown a couple of tricks, but, this yoyo is NICE!
First two pictures are the first Spinworthy I purchased, near the start of Glen’s journey into yoyo making, 2nd two are the new yoyo.
Sick! Glen is a super solid dude and I really hope more people take the dive to place an order with him. I only have one from him, but two more in the works and I cannot wait.
Pariah arrived a few weeks back but i forgot to post about it. I was going to get the black one but changed my decision a few minutes before the drop. Do not regret it. Its a pink/orange fade, yet the difference between them is extremely subtle. It makes for a really unique effect irl.
It is my first bimetal. It had the same weight in hand as my manatee. It does stay noticeable more stable than it. Slightly more stable than the tivayder. I love the finish on it. It grinds forever and feels amazing when doing so. I find it hard to believe this was machined in china because its just made so well.
Second knuckleroller in as many days. I have a problem with impulse. This one comes from aroundsquare and has copper knobs and an aluminum… Shaft? Super heavy at around 71g, but I like it a lot.
