What did you get in the mail, 2025?

The string was knotted in my sons as well lol, I had to rip it out :skull:

Leaf came in today, hoping for my Klondike to show up either tonight or Monday, and Iā€™ve finally got the G2 Nessie 24 coming in next week also :+1:

Sounds like you got a great week ahead with all those new throws! Great choices!

How is this?

You actually completely sold me on the FD50 by explaining this, just ordered one.

This solution to my yo-yo organization has been overdue for like a decade

First mail day of 2025, One Drop 2013 Benchmark O

I got to try one of these at worlds last year and have wanted one since. Itā€™s a boring yoyo done exceptionally well. Exactly the type of thing I like throwing.

(kind of a long post, sorry)

After seeing the unfortunate outcome of the FB secret santa that I participated in a couple of weeks ago, a very generous and kind member of the community reached out to me and offered to send me something to make up for the sour situation. I hesitantly accepted (only because I didnā€™t feel like I deserved the kind gesture) a few days ago the package arrived and this is what was in it.

I am utterly and wholeheartedly speechless and grateful beyond words. They blew up my mailbox in a way I never imagined! It really turned my holiday around.

Look at it! Just look at it! The horror! (not actually my mailbox)

I hadnā€™t posted about this, but this past November I lost a sister right before Thanksgiving and her birthday. Two years ago I lost my father a couple of days before Christmas and a year before that my grandpa a few days before my Birthday in September. So the last 4 years have been super rough for me around the holidays. Iā€™ve not really been in the spirit and have kind of dreaded it, not really wanting to acknowledge it was even going on.

To try and move forward the last two years I have participated in a charity auction to wood turn Christmas ornaments in conjunction with Turners Warehouse (www.turnerswarehouse.com) a wood turning store in Gilbert Arizona to raise funds for the St. Jude childrenā€™s hospital in Arizona. We raised a total of $8,050 for the charity this year! Doing this has kind of brightened my spirits a little but itā€™s still been a struggle to get through the holidays.

So, feeling good about the auction going so well and in an attempt to come to terms with my sisterā€™s passing, I decided to do a secret Santa this year to try and make someone elseā€™s holiday ā€œjoyfulā€ and so I sent some packages to a couple of folks and unfortunately my ā€œsantaā€ gave me a lump of coal, lol! It didnā€™t go so well and I was kind of bummed out because they didnā€™t follow the rules. It kind of reiterated that voice in my head that I was destined to have a crummy holiday one way or another. But then, someone on here reached out to me and offered to send me something to make up for that other personā€™s naughtiness.

This package definitely turned my holidays around big time. I really canā€™t express how much it means to me. The generosity and friendship thatā€™s in the community knows no bounds. I just wanted to post publicly to thank them once again. You know who you are and I really appreciate you! You helped turn a sour situation into a great one and I hope I am able to convey how much it means to me.

Sorry for the long post guys, I just thought I should give a background of what lead to this and I in no way mean for it to be a ā€œflexā€ post.

What a community! Iā€™m sorry for your loss but stoked for your mailbomb!

Itā€™s part of the reason I always end up coming back no matter how long Iā€™m away from the hobby for whatever reasons.

Especially now given how many hobbies have become incredibly divisive or ultra competitive or whatever else. I havenā€™t experienced such genuine kindness and acceptance in anything else Iā€™ve been a part of.

Thatā€™s why it stands out so much when a bad apple pops up unfortunately.

OD Rainier

This is a really nice one. Kind of what I was hoping forā€”a SE Top Deck with smoother rims. Really great job!

The Rainier is derived from the Cascade, not the Top Deck, yes?

The salient element of the Top Deckā€™s design, IMO, the thing that makes it a Top Deck, really, is its precariously thin bearing seat, which is how it achieves its unique weight distribution. I seriously doubt the Rainier was designed with the same weight distribution scheme as the Top Deck. Sorry if it seems like Iā€™m picking at nits but Iā€™m a bit of a Top Deck nutter and am rather particular about comparisons to it.

The Rainier profile was based on the Cascade, but the weight distribution was significantly altered to distribute weight to the rim.

Right, but I think summarizing it as an ā€œSE Top Deckā€ is incredibly misleading, at least to anyone who really knows the Top Deck well.

Got this at the local thrift shop. It was looking lonely on shelf.

I would say that an SE yo-yo could never be all that similar to to Top Deck for the reasons you pointed out.

Outside of the bearing seat, the Cascade seems closer to the Top Deck, as far as where weight is concentrated. To overcome the switch from that TD seat to an SE yo-yo would require a much more significant shift of weight elsewhere, which the Rainier does.

Enough for a result that is similar? I donā€™t know.

But what stands out about any yo-yo can differ from person to person anyway.
