What did you get in the mail, 2025?

I find nothing similar between the Top Deck and Rainier. Look, feel, shape, specs…no similarity. (I do have both)

The Rainier has 4 extra mm of width with which to push out its weight to achieve its performance characteristics. The Top Deck is the result of some highly unusual production choices, made in order to push as much weight as possible to its rims, leaving very little in the rest of the body. The result is a degree of power and stability you just don’t see in any other yoyo with its shape profile. You have to resort to bi-metal rims or a significant width increase (like with the Rainier) in order to get the same results without employing such an extreme–even questionable–body design. In other words, the Rainier is about as similar to a Top Deck as any bi-metal out there.

Ok. Perhaps I should have said it’s Top Deck-like. Wider, less rim weight though still more than many ODs, 6061, SEs, etc. Never meant exact, just the closest I’ve come across in my limited experience. A guy can dream, can’t he?

Nothing too special but one of the cheap part packages I could afford off of eBay. The bearings are surprisingly good and a nice upgrade from what I had been using, especially after a cleaning and break in period. Health probs keep my budget tight but for what it is I have gotten a lot of joy and performance from this little packet, more than expected.
Hoping the new throw I have been eagerly awaiting comes in tomorrow, but being rural I’m not holding my breath Happy throwing to all y’all!
