Got two American Metal Spingadgets manufactured by One Drop—one black, one cerakote orange for my wife; and a pair of Loopingstars for us to try more looping tricks / 2A.
This is actually my first time seeing/handling a cerakote yoyo. It feels a little rough around the hard edges, but that’s not a huge downside. Doesn’t quite beat the exquisite & unique feel of Pyramatte IMO, but the more pastel-like appearance is really nice aesthetically. If the cerakote were glazed like crockery I’m sure it would feel incredible. And shatter into a million pieces.
The orange Spingadget came without a loop in its string. This was a little odd, since OD always ship a pre-looped string, but whatever. The black one had the string detached from the yoyo. Also unusual. But what was most unusual was when I picked up my black Spingadget and tried to throw it. It hit the end of the string without unwinding at all, spun just enough to be salvageable, but then would not bind at all. It felt like I accidentally attached a rock to the string instead of a yoyo. I thought I just wound the string up badly so I tried again, but it was the same. Perplexed, I peered inside…
Technically not mail day (the that’ll be this afternoon), but had to go to the store for a couple things and figured these would make some good stocking stuffers for my daughter this year:
