Lurker with a chipped neon green Wyvern—yup, definitely less durable  managed to scratch off some of the cerekote with accidental bumps against a wooden shelf, a ceramic bowl, an Ikea table (this is why I can’t have nice things)… The aluminum itself wasn’t dented though

Edit, if you’re curious:

How is cerekote applied? The easy damage sounds and looks like what a paint would do.

Much like the application of the M&Ms coating. [secret]

Not sure if it’s just the green wyvern but I have a cerakote yoyo that’s been hit against my tile floors and still looks flawless. I might just be lucky but I always thought this was supposed to be a sturdy coating.

Consistently good finishers are hard to come by these days. Not saying that is the reason in this particular instance, but there very well could be a range of buildup or small inconsistencies in the process.

Yeah! My pearl one took a minor hit and its spotless. The cerakotes do feel different between pearl and green so maybe different ones have different durability as well?

I’m so, so sorry! I couldn’t help it!

the aluminum is anodized because any kind of paint fails to cling to it…any kind. You can also coat it with very hard layers, see oven-baked ceramic powder paints, such as The Shield by Jazz-yo… but they will never cling and in the event of an impact, first and then they will detach.

The funny thing is how Cerakote is advertised on its website for being superior in so many ways to anodization. Yeah no.

I have a number of cerakote knives and they hold up really well. I love One Drop but this seems more like an application error than a weakness in cerakote.

I wonder if the glossier looking Cerakote finish is more durable than the chalky green? Anybody have the white finish with damage yet?

Honestly I think I’d prefer the chalky ones even if it is less durable.

My white Kamuraiju scratched very easily. I do love how it feels but I was surprised by how easily I marked it. I have another anodized OD and that by comparison feels much less fragile.

Do you have both the white and the neon green? Wondering how the feel of the finish compares.

Does the white feel chalky? How are the grinds/fingerspins?

Micro-Arc finishing is :fire:
