Got a Dove.
First impressions:
Bearing seat is really tight (pushed out the “press-fit” nut capture sysem just trying to put a bearing on)
Pretty vibey
Pretty snaggy
Plays alright, dissapointed in the quality though.

That’s very strange. All my Doves play better than any other plastic yoyo I own (not counting hybrids).

Im going to keep throwing it at least for a few days and hopefully wear these pads in. That could help.
My Speedaholic XX plays glass smooth in comparison. Im also very picky

I would like to hear your thoughts on it, especially if you have any other plastics for comparison.
I personally love both my Speedahlic XX and BoltXP. This and the Topyo Cloud just play so meh to me.

It’s been a few months since I had my last mail day, but this one specifically feels like it’s been a long time coming. Now we both have one @kight!

I liked the Cloud once I had it siliconed and tuned. Dove was an experience similar to yours for me. Mine vibed and had a super tight bearing seat. I didn’t like the gloss finish it had at all, just felt wrong somehow.
The BoltXP, Speedaholic XX, and Shooting Star are all a cut above it in my book.

What are those from? I feel like theose little symbols are from an old pokemon game and they were called unknowns?

Yeah, it’s the Pokemon Unown from Gold and Silver. The profile engraving reads “IF LOST PLEASE CONTACT UNKNOWN AND ASK FOR CLYW either a pickaxe or unknown symbol at the end depending on the yoyo half ”
It’s really cute and I’m super nostalgic for the first three Pokemon generations.

Yeah after playing with the Dove extensively last night and discovering it has pulse vibe that has only gotten worse since changing the bearing, I dont think I can recommend this yoyo, especially when yoyos like the Speedaholic XX exist that are cheaper and better in quality.
Interesting. I play with my dove quite a bit. I enjoy it, but I don’t have those other ones for comparison. Mine came with some coloring flaws, so I could understand if quality control was less stringent. Seems like a different experience. If it seems to have flaws, I’d ask for a refund or replacement.

I’m not worried about replacing it, from a player perspective it still plays. I heard yoyofriends had their own machine shop so I wanted to give them a try, the bearing seat situation alone showed me what I needed to see.
I’d be bummed if that was my first introduction to YYFriends, you should give ‘em another shot b/c their bimetals are some of the absolute highest quality I own. The Peregrine, Vulture and Hummingbird are all crazy good and stupidly well made. Maybe they just outsource the making of the Dove? Just a theory.

I too am surprised of this. Yoyofriends dole out some high quality stufff. My Dove was super smooth and played so well. Maybe you got a dud. Any chance of sending it back? What kind of bearing did you try to install? Could the ID been small?

Pretty sure they wouldn’t outsource. They are the machine shop. Their official FPM FB has posts like this even, from June 10

Yeah you’re probably right. Was just a theory since some yoyo companies who machine their own throws have outsourced the cheaper plastic stuff in the past.
