What did you get in the mail, 2022?

One of my favourite yoyo’s.

CLYW Beater in root beer colorway

The beater looks like an awesome throw !!! Also why don’t you try making you own counterweight @Eric_Newlin !!! I’m sure that’ll be pretty cool

That sounds fun! I’m going to try to finish as many yo-yos as possible before school starts, but I’ll keep that in mind.

I second that!! Instant favorite.

I have a green/orange splash if anyone wants to jump in the game. I won it, liked it so much, had to buy a more favorable colorway. I picked up grey/blue.

R-type is no joke as well!!

I was totally surprised by the R Type! I usually stay away from yoyos that wide but even though it’s 49mm it doesn’t remind me of it’s width and the weight (64.5?) is supreme to me. The shape and cut of the rims make it pleasant to hold and catch and the rim weight is just perfect in that it makes it very stable and forgiving but also does not feel heavy / rock-like. It’s my favorite yoyo from Yoyo Factory and probably one of my favorite yoyos of the last several years.

Got some Badwolfeco strings: strawberry lemonade and blue lagoon. Been hearing good things about them. Will test soon.

I totally back BadWolfeCo, great company, great string and good colors, lots of veriety and for the fact they come in slicc, goldilocks and dummy thicc it’s a great way to get string that match your playstyle and yoyo style.

What are your thoughts on the Galaxy Time?

A comparison to the Mowl Surveillance would be great.

The Galaxy Time is substantially lighter than the Surveillance, and as such I would say it has slightly less spin power than the Surveillance. But it’s a fair trade-off, IMO. I’ve been throwing the Galaxy Time a lot lately, and it just feels right to me. I’m really hoping they release it in bright red at some point. I think if you like the Surveillance, but want something a bit lighter, then you’ll love the Galaxy Time.

Would you say the performance is also better at non horizontal play?

I would say that for simple tricks the performance is comparable to something like the iYoYo Iceberg or highly rim weighted bi-metals. For difficult tricks with multiple string layers/wraps or tricks that can be snaggy the performance is definitely better (maybe 20-50%) than most bimetals. With the free spinning center and slightly recessed response there is just very little friction when you get multiple string layers in the catch zone or around the bearing.

It’s like having a cheat code for horizontal though. I’d love to see what someone like @nightshadow could do with it. I’d bet someone with enough skill could pull off a 2-3 minute horizontal routine on a single throw!

thanks for the feedback. I dont play horizontal (yet) but I have know some tricks with multiple wraps or directional changes where some yoyos tend to snag, that bothers me at times, I just might pick this one up

If there was ever a yoyo to learn horizontal on its this one!

That’s awesome! Sounds like exactly what I’d want since I love lighter yoyos.

Also, happy cake day!
