Yeah. I think that’s why they use them.
Using metal spacers as the bearing seat in plastic yoyos will allow them to be manufactured with higher tolerances that will make a yoyo smoother and more durable. Going for an all plastic route will be cheaper at the cost of durability and smoothness.
Here’s an example of a Replay Pro suffering from damage caused by going the all plastic route.

Got this gorgeous Capstan '22 yesterday! This is an amazing throw, and the longest spinning most stable D bearing throw I have ever played! It’s light and agile, slightly narrow compared to most throws today but I like that… This thing is loads of fun, and very comfortable in the hand. Got my last(?) A-MAY-zing shipment today. My (complete?) haul for the month:
I also got some string and some Loop 2020 parts that aren’t included in the photo.
Also, full disclosure, the Loop 720s have SUNRiSE conversion kits installed now. The Loop 2020s are not exactly what I received as I have swapped around caps to make the pair I like the most. (blue with clear LED caps). The blues don’t match because one of them was a prototype. The clear body is also from a prototype.
And yes, that’s a lot of Daydreams… and yes, I like the color blue.
