Yeah I bought it with those dings to daily carry so if I did anything to it I wouldn’t feel bad lol, but One Drops finishes are pretty tough. Looks like the PO slammed it into concrete or something, as I’ve bumped it against all sorts of stuff and it holds up great.
@andy569 yo post the black hades 3a no damage picture
Black anno is harder to scuff up
Just embrace the scratch regardless of color
Best way to hide scratches is more scratches.
Lemme tell you something. Every single one of my yoyos has at least one scratch or ding on it. As a newer player, for me this seems to be inevitable. As long as the damage doesn’t give the yoyo permanent vibe, I’m ok with it (I’ll be sad about it but will move on).
My Summer Solstice, which is one of my first yoyos, is so dinged up, and has a deal of nail vibe. But because it’s just nail vibe, it doesn’t affect play that much. Some of my yoyos have damage that doesn’t affect them at all.
Each time I ding a throw it teaches me to be more careful about where and when I’m throwing, as well as what I’m wearing (belt buckles are mean!). It’s just a part of the learning process
And watches, I have dinged two throws in the same watch.
I don’t wear that watch when I throw anymore lol
I also agree with embracing the patina, however! It’s not damaged, it’s well loved.
Probably silver?
I find white plastic hides it well. Need light to hit it just right to see it. Got a white plastic with pinprick and too small to feel for it. Knowing it has it, it still takes me a while to find it.
As for metals, a scratch that has cut into the material will reflect light differently from the main surface. Question is how different. Interestingly, the Tom Kuhn SB2 is normally polished but they offer a brushed version they say is “more forgiving”. These are raw aluminum.
As for anodized aluminum, there are too many factors to generalize on color. Anodizing thickness, chemical and mechanical finishing, and alloy properties are major factors.
But like others said, you can limit damage but you can’t fully prevent it. You can embrace the unique surface character, or get a second one to keep on a shelf.
I no longer own this, but the Rockabully colorway by CLYW, with the black anodizing and raw speckles, is fantastic at hiding dings/scratches/etc ..
i had a magic yoyo n11 that was able to handle and hide scratches super well it was black and gold
This should turn into a “post your dings!” thread.
This was my first time dinging a metal yoyo on concrete. It’s a boosted rainier. A bind slipped and hit the ground on a walk yesterday.
ooh thats bad
