Anno color question: clear vs silver

Okay, looking at one drop yo-yos, sometimes there is silver anno, and sometimes I see clear. Is clear like a clear coat? And is silver really silver? I feel silly asking this, but to people who have compared them, are they really different?

Its just anodized raw aluminium without dye as far as I know.

Clear is a clear coat. Silver could be some silver colored anodization if it isn’t just… a nickname for clear.

That’s what I was wondering, if they just mean the same thing. Was wondering if someone has a silver and a clear they’ve compared, and if they could tell them apart.

Upmanyu is correct.

Silver is obviously the natural color of aluminum.

When an aluminum yo-yo is polished, but not anodized, it is just considered a raw yo-yo that’s been polished

When an aluminum yo-yo has been anodized in an assortment of colors, often one of those colors is the natural aluminum color. So while the individual colors of black red, blue green, whatever?… are color anodized, the raw aluminum colored yo-yo is clear anodized.

So when a yo-yo is listed in the color options as a clear, yo-yo, it simply means it was subjected to the anodizing process minus any tinting that would alter it from its natural aluminum state.

So basically seeing a yo-yo is clear anodized is kinda like saying vanilla ice cream. Just about any other flavor of ice cream besides vanilla is still ice cream but an assortment of different colors and flavors.

So if a yo-yo color option is clear, that just means it’s silver. You don’t anodize a yo-yo silver then do some kind of clear anodization over the top of it.

If you do, you’re either a mad scientist or a monkey’s uncle.

I’m holding out for clear aluminum. All I want to see is string and a bearing.

I usually think of silver as blasted and clear as glossy but thinking about it I think they’re the same.
