The Beater in its element.
I wish I could try the Tiramisu models. They look so slick. But then again, not knowing if I like (either of) them saves me from spending all the $$$ it would take to acquire one.
What is that red+silver bi-metal?
You like the c or d bearing version better? I have had my D bearing variant on loan for a while and think I’m missing the power relative to the float of the second one.
I honestly don’t have a favorite. If i want speed I go with the d bearing. If i want more casual throw session I use the c bearing. To me they play different enough to bring both out.
I wish there was a kind of library. Like a yoyo library to try before you buy. That would be awesome. I was skeptical on buying the ti-bowl mini by RSO because i had all the other version and thought how different could this one be. I’m glad i went through with the purchase because the mini ti-bowl is now my favorite out of all versions (aluminum, steel, d-bearing, c-bearing).
its a yoyorecreation bae, which is the “production” version of the toru 0.9/0.99 series
“I’m telling you, there was a dang bigfoot in my living room. It was purple and about the size of a softball…”
Don’t sleep on the updated CLYW Sasquatch, it’s oversized but incredibly light weight and stable. Probably the funnest monometal I’ve gotten this year.
Slim Dunk. This is my last unresponsive throw that I own. After throwing it some tonight I think I am going to hang on to it. I have had it in the BST, but no deals. Back to the shelf with it.
Another user described play with the Beater as “addicting”, and I am inclined to agree. I haven’t touched anything else in my collection for a few days, and I’m quickly beginning to appreciate things I didn’t like about it at first: the width and thinner rims are a big part of the appeal of this particular yoyo, although it took some convincing for me to warm up to them. And man, the weight and unique distribution really are something.
I did have to experiment a bit in order to dial in my string and bearing choice, and I’ve landed on the stock CT with a fat poly/nylon blend. Binds that weren’t purposeful enough were a bit inconsistent while using both of my favorite YYSL polyester strings, but this combination seems to give me tight, consistent binds every time. I don’t love CT bearings in every yoyo, but I like the “modern flat” feel a whole lot for this one. I found that a DS feels a bit too clinical on the string, which isn’t really what I’m after when I play the Beater.
TL;DR great stuff from CLYW. I’m real happy with this one.
I think it’d be worthwhile to get some sort of temporary exchange program going with a few of the more trusted users here at some point. It’d be really fun to swap yoyos a la 2007-2009 YYN trades - just to try new stuff out, without so much concern for getting value in return or swapping ONLY for something on your want list. We’d probably have to exclude most of the 5A junkies, though…
Massively agreeing with this post. I know it seemed like I was kind of coming onto the Beater a bit harsh at first, but it’s gotten the majority of my playtime this week. It is absolutely an addicting/interesting yoyo.
Me too. It’s definitely different from the flock of organics.
I’m going to string up my new Beater today and see if it can dethrone my MCMO and Mowl Q as my favorite organics. I’m waiting in a Creep to be delivered too. I think I’ve gotten mostly organics this year and a few bi metals.
