What are you spinning?

What top is this

It was a bearing tip Spintastics Quicksilver, but it is a fixed tip now.

Is there a way to tighten down the bearing tip to fix it? Or did you have to totally replace it?

I had made some washers out of an old motorcycle inner tube, you can snug down the top nut until there is enough drag on the bearing to stop it from spinning. The reason I removed the bearing tip assy is because of the shape of the tip. The diabolo shape tip is way better for regens.

Do you know if you need a lathe to cut the hole in the cap?

I used a 1” hole saw, works on cutting the bottom out of the crown on a Short Circuit too, so you can put your string in there easily.
You don’t really have to put it on a lathe, it just makes it easier and neater, you can improvise:wink:

Thanks. I was thinking about a hole saw, but wondered if it wasn’t perfectly centered if it would be an issue. Looks like the Spintastics I have (all plastic) have a little square hole at the top so that will hopefully help center the pilot.

Yeah I put a hole in the crown and spun it up on a drill and cut the top off with a box cutter. Looks like I may have been drinking a little too. Anyways, better access to shop tools would have helped, but it’s just plastic. I can’t find my hole saw, but it looks like 1” would work on the Quicksilver too. I gotta find that thing.

I am going to get a hole saw Friday, I can post if it fits the QS then if you are curious. I like to drill out the YYF tops.

I really love these Cobra spin tops. Absolutely excellent for 17 bucks. They throw like monsters

If you don’t have them you must buy

Brought this one on vacay. A top has no name.

Ok. @Lido, got the saw already. It works for the YYF Short Circuit and the old Duncan RipCord and Bearing King crowns, it is a bit small for the QuickSilver, so it would leave a small lip on the inside .

Thanks. Maybe you can tape some sandpaper around the saw to clean it up after if needed.

I remember you saying that one had no name whereabouts. Did you get it? I still love my cobras. I’m actually outside right now trying to practice the wire walk because I’ve gotten throwing them so good and I’ve got my boomerang so good. I want to get a spin top that’s just a hair bigger. All my spin tops are kind of small
