What are some elements that make a yoyo better for competition?

I keep seeing “geared for competition” on lots of yoyos as they come out. I was just wondering, what are some things that make something better for competition compared to yoyos made for casual play? Obviously there’s material, and a responsive yoyo isn’t going to be best for competition, but what is?

Usually:

  • Width: to help players hit difficult tricks.
  • Stability: to help players focus more on their routines and less on correcting the tilt of their yoyos. Stability is achieved by a lot of factors: rimweight, shape, dimensions, etc.
  • Weight: lighter yoyos usually tend to move faster than heavy yoyos, thus encouraging a faster playstyle, which is beneficial so player can land more elements in less time.

So, when you see yoyos that are “geared for competition”, those yoyos will most of the time have this characteristics.
