Weight loss journey

I understand about the clothes. I lost around 65 lbs over the last 3-4 years. I still have clothes that are too big for me and I’m so hesitant to get more clothing. There are so many factors that lead to weight gain and those factors also make it very difficult to lose weight. That can lead to depression which adds even more. Don’t EVER feel judged here brother. We are all rooting for you. On my own front, I actually got the mental health department at the VA to arrange an appointment with a neurologist for my brain damage. If I can get some sort of diagnosis it will go a long way towards getting my disability approved.

why? milk lobby is strong but you def don’t need to consume milk past infancy much less from another species :face_vomiting:

What do you mean ‘need’? No, you don’t ‘need’ milk to survive, but it’s high in protein and healthy fats. Lactose intolerant? Skill issue.

Eddie Hall chugs a half gallon during his lifts, which is all the endorsement I need.

As a lactose intolerant I am confused by the love of milk.

The milk my family gets is a hard 4/10.

Have you tried making your own pizzas with some of the stuff you dont normally enjoy? Sone veggies i dont really enjoy raw can be great put on pizzas once they crisp up and mix with the ingredients? You can sort of train yourself to get used to different flavors you’re not used to by slowly increasing the amounts as you make them.

Honestly just keep at it and keep trying veggies in different spices and cooking methods and dont get discouraged. I compare it to coffee which i used to hate but slowly kept trying and now i love.

lol so are a million other things. milk offers nothing even remotely unique. years of the dairy industry plugging it has sure had an effect though

Gaining weight is really hard, I used to ignore hunger signs when I was busy and under eat. I think the best approach is to make a meal plan with foods you like and stick to it as consistently as you can. It’s not so bad once you get into the groove, especially if you don’t mind eating the same foods every day.

Personally I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, whey protein, eggs, chicken thighs, corn, rice, and broccoli. If I were trying to gain weight I’d healthy add fats like raw nuts or avocado.

What’s your bench?

i sincerely hope you aren’t suggesting that has any bearing on the merits of milk lmao but to answer you anyway i have no idea, it’s not an exercise i engage with regularly. I’m not currently focused on pec development and functionally i have no need to push things really hard. what’s your background in nutrition?

It’s a bit disrespectful to be arguing here…

i disagree with your assessment that ppl have to agree or stay silent to be respectful. is ok for ppl to discuss a disagreement without it being characterized as an argument. i don’t feel disrespected and I’m certainly not out to disrespect them and the discussion is on topic :man_shrugging:

I’m just baffled by arguing about milk.

@Captrogers Try a lactase supplement. They’re a game changer.

I have to respectfully disagree.

  1. For one thing, it contains bioavailable calcium in a significant amount, which is hard to get from anything else except for canned sardines (w/ the bones). Calcium supplements - especially above 500mg doses -are highly controversial, but seem to contribute to CVD. (One article, can PM many more: The good, the bad, and the ugly of calcium supplementation: a review of calcium intake on human health - PMC).
  2. If we’re not limiting milk to it’s most basic form, it can be fermented into Greek yogurt or kefir, which is rich in lactic-acid bacteria (i.e. some of the best studied probiotics. Can’t cite enough studies on the importance of the microbiome). While these can be supplemented, you know these contain live, fresh cultures that didn’t sit in a hot warehouse and you’re getting complete proteins + calcium to boot.

Milk definitely is a complex thing, but I’m happy to nerd out more if desired

I’m trying the exact opposite, I’m trying to bulk up

I used to have the milk discussion with patients. I even used to have a raw milk delivery at my office. RAW unpasteurized quality milk is a completely diffrent product then the pasturized milk everyone buys in stores. I will say Raw milk is not for everyone and is full of myths and controversy like everything else in this world, most is untrue and politicalnonsense. But as a Healthcare professional I’ve done my research and i felt it was worth exploring. I drank raw milk for over 20 years daily which was delivered to my office and was milked from the dairy cow less then 24 hours from when i got my bottle. I think raw dairy has a lot of therapeutic benefits, not to mention the benefits of fermented dairy.
