If you depend on the government then be prepared to be let down is what should be expected. How many shutdowns now?
I was refering to the the government and not just the food stamp program. The government grossly mismanages most things. Case in point this shut down. I was over served 13000 dollars in food stamps. We did not defraud them. They clawed it all back. Thier mistake not ours. It is not a perfect program. More to what I am saying is an “eggs all in one basket” and the government is a bad basket. Not really going after anyone here. I have been on HUD and SNAP they are helpful but we should not see these things as a way to live but a stepping stone to a more independent way of life. It is degrating to have to ask permission to buy food. That is my point
Do you have any data to support this claim? It seems to me that food shelters could purchase in high volume at wholesale prices and provide higher quality/more nutritious options at lower prices vs enabling people to buy unhealthy items at gas stations and other overpriced stores.
Just to clarify I did not intend to offend anyone and only wanted to share my opinion. Words don’t have much intonation on posts. Not wishing to be a jackass or stir up anything🫣
If I am not mistaken that is indeed how the program is meant to be utilized.
They just salty cause the govt missed the deepest state drop!
“Come on guys, we ARE the deepest state! How could we possibly miss this?”
Dang lizard people mad they got out deeped.
Hah! Right?! From now on we’ll refer to it only as “The Gamestop Drop” ![]()
I live in a very poor town and they are seen as a way of life here. When my wife wrote to the HUD office to thank them for thier help and to let them know we no longer needed assistance, they were blown away and kept asking if we were sure we didn’t need more help. Felt amazing to say we got this now, but thank you for all of the help!
Logistics and storage of perishable food is extremely expensive. Way more so than any option a food bank can provide. On top of that and it’s unfortunate but how it is many family’s that survive on SNAP also rely on food pantries to supplement them through the month. It’s a problem that is underlying other problems in the country but it’s not going to be solved by cutting the program it’s self it needs to be solved at the source which is getting people survivable wages and jobs..
I’m worried we are moving toward a locked thread conversation here so maybe we call it and take these conversations to a more unhinged platform like discord or Reddit or Facebook. (I apologize but I can’t bring my self to use x)
This country has made it through worse. We will persevere through this and much more I am sure. That is what makes this place special. The governing body at anytime is only a by-word at best when compared to the zeitgeist. We the people are what matter
I cannot see how this goes until Thanksgiving. Air traffic controllers are all working without pay and they cannot strike. The airlines have warned of chaos and these poor people are being made to work for free. Something has got to give…
You mean Twitter? Or X, Formerly Twitter? Or Not Twitter, currently X?
Or if you want to be particularly edgy, xTwitteRx
Your assumption of the source of the problem is incorrect. It’s the debasement of the currency due to the deficit spending and money printing that is eroding the purchasing power of everyone’s dollar. Over one lifetime your purchasing power is decreased by 90%. Arbitrarily increasing wages or providing more direct transfers via wealth confiscation, as has been advocated on this forum recently, will only increase the money printing and currency debasement thereby increasing the wealth gap and hollowing of the middle class. This thread was political to begin with imo and should have been locked/removed immediately. You keep making statements that are inherently political then saying you don’t want to talk politics so the thread won’t get locked. You can’t have it both ways.
I think he was making a general point. Lets not make it an opportunity to inject your own politics.
I am completely non political. I don’t vote for either party. Both parties are just two wings of the same vulture. Listing facts about the mathematics of the fiat currency and debasement isn’t political. Talking about government shutdowns and referencing specific parties as has been done numerous times on this thread is by definition political.
i’m a big fan of the Good Life Mantra. Probably my favorite throw. Have I ever mentioned that before?
i haven’t mentioned either party and only been making general statements regarding all of congress. I did note earlier with the current administration we won’t know what will happen till it happens but I think that’s fair as it’s been proven to be true and uncertainty has been fairly consistent part of the current administration to date. Otherwise I’ve kept it very both sides which I’ve got flack for lumping everyone together in my dms already….
Either way I’ve mostly just been responding to folks. In the end my issue is impact to individuals here. I’m happy not many in this community have had issues. I live in the DC area near a military base and work for a federal contractor so my little bubble is very very influenced day to day hour to hour by the shutdown and the decisions made in DC my friends, neighbors and family are all impacted but i realize most folks don’t live this close to it all and won’t actually notice the shutdown till it starts flowing into downstream impacts after the 30 day mark.
I’m really sorry for everyone going through tough times right now. My comments are more on encouraging self reliance not stripping people of things they need. I hope everyone finds the support they require. Suffering is a terrible part of this life that forges incredible tough folks.
@AndreBoulay please remove this thread. Pretty sure everybody knows why it was created.
