Well, @andy569 was complaining that people weren’t “triggering” him enough. I thought, “what would trigger me the most ” That’s the best/worst thing I could come up with.
I’d give the Horizon a second chance. Is it difficult to learn this kind of trick on it? Yes, absolutely. But is it worth it? 100% worth it, in my opinion.
When it comes to fingerspins, it’s my favorite yo-yo. I can easily get one and a half minute fingerspin times on it. But the best part is how it feels on your finger. A Skyva will spin for a much longer time, and so will a Chech Point Pivot. But I never liked how plastic feels on the hand. I prefer metal. The C3yoyodesigns - Fingerspin is also really nice, but the Horizon will spin longer. Once you get the technique down, you’ll love it. Well, unless you don’t like how it plays in general.
People who “don’t like bimetals” simply haven’t tried the right one.
I do agree fingerspins on horizon-type yoyos are very satisfying but when you start doing hops and more advanced fingerspin tricks I found that the horizon yoyos were the least forgiving.
I can get a minute fingerspin with it. Cool. But Id rather be doing more interesting stuff than having it just sit on my finger
Yeah, I have to agree that the horizon is not the best to learn fingerspins on. I think the learning curve might be a bit high. I feel like the skyva isn’t the best to learn on either though. There isn’t a learning curve really. I think something in the middle of those two would be better: space cadet or curvy donut man for instance. You have to get the basic technique down but once you get it, the yoyo just goes.
Edit: even non- centering yoyos would be good: knight and 1st gen octave (what I learned on) for instance.
Wide yoyos aren’t as great as everyone makes them to be.
I agree. When it comes to these types of tricks, the Horizon is definitely not very forgiving. Like @Cannon said, it’s not a good yo-yo to learn these tricks on. Yet once you’ve mastered the trick on a more accommodating yo-yo, it’s the most fun to use, even for hops and more advanced tricks.
Mastering fingerspin tricks on a yo-yo is one thing, mastering them on the Horizon is another. While a very demanding yo-yo, I feel like anything related to fingerspins is more satisfying on the Horizon. I don’t know, that’s just my opinion. Maybe I’m just a big fan.
At least you all can fingerspin. I still can’t get down the soft finger aspect
What yoyo are you using?
I’ll win with these.

I have a few different ones. Plastic skyva I can only get for like 4 seconds lol. I’ve also been trying on my DLRN but that one doesn’t work either once my finger gets towards the center it just spins out of control
Which way do you throw? When I first learned them i had a lot of trouble getting fingerspins from my horizontal throw. I had a lot more success doing just a hard throw with some angle on it.
I try both
You just need to keep practicing on it. Mastering soft finger is much like mastering boingy-boing. It seems impossible, but it’s sooooo much fun once you get it. I spent forever trying to learn how to fingerspin on the horizon, but I kept at it, and I eventually got it down.
This. This is the key. Practice makes perfect
Nah, non-nylon strings only feel like crap. They play just fine.
True to a point, but if you are practicing bad or wrong technique, youll never get perfect.
So, perfect practice makes perfect?
I definitely don’t practice it as much as I should haha.
It’s all about how you work your finger. You need to keep it slightly bent and limp. Think of it as human being slowly getting tired and falling asleep. If you make it stiff, the yo-yo will not stay centered and, instead, will spin out of control.
That being said, your technique should vary depending on the type of yo-yo you use (try saying that 10 times in a row ). If it’s a yo-yo like the Horizon or the Skyva, you’ll want to make it as horizontal as possible before you attempt to catch it. If it’s something like the Nightmare, the Igloo, etc, you want to throw it at an angle (but these types will only spin for a few seconds). Lastly, try to bend your knees and follow the yo-yo as it drops. This will make it easier to catch, and will allow the yo-yo to land more softly on your finger.
Hope this helps!
People put too much time and effort into lubricating their bearings. Just put a drop or two of lube on the bearing and go.
